Every staff member jailed at Blackpool's 'hospital of horrors' as police continue to probe allegations of neglect
'This is reflective of the severity of what has taken place'
As former consultant Dr Amal Bose begins a prison sentence the tally of staff from Blackpool Victoria Hospital to have been jailed for criminal offences committed at work continues to rise. Bose is the sixth staff member to have been jailed since police were called in to investigate allegations of neglect on the hospital's stroke unit in 2018. The arrogant surgeon molested younger, female staff members on the cardiothorasic unit after he was promoted to be head of department. The unit had a toxic culture - with Bose at the heart of it, Preston Crown Court heard. He attempted to pass off his predatory behaviour as 'banter' but his victims were left feeling helpless due to his seniority.
@GrumpyOldNurse@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I know, this is something else altogether, off the charts just. Not merely the staff bullying stuff of the Highland NHS scandal but just outright depravity and evil.
@HebrideanHecate@GrumpyOldNurse@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain It's what happens when things are made sacred and cannot ever be questioned without the usual -isms, -phobias, and accusations of bigotry being trotted out. The NHS has been the most sacred of sacred cows for decades now. More money would not have prevented this; actual competence may have. A culture of *this could happen so let's all make sure it doesn't* openness was replaced with arse-covering. And they wonder why we don't trust medicine and pharmaceuticals.
@GrumpyOldNurse@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain Re the Highland thing, just so you know what talking about, and it was still going on even after the racket about it and the payouts. This though is something else, this is wholesale attack on patients.
@GrumpyOldNurse@HebrideanHecate@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain There can when the abusers hide behind the sacred cow status because they are *more marginalised* and it becomes taboo to even question the organisation. This is why all these lobby groups had to infiltrate every organisation. Not being able to criticise the NHS is essential to allow the money to flow and abuses to be covered up. If there are criticisms then out come the usual hostage puppies and character assassinations; my neighbour is a nurse and she's lovely, doctors deserve a pay raise because they work hard, if you don't fund hospitals then babies will die, so you're a vaccine denier are you?, don't you want to end transphobia/racism/(insert here)? etc etc etc. And don't even get me started on the medical abuses that were in plain sight during lockdown.
