#Trump's #fascism is characterising #autism as an illness, while many autistics feature as outstanding figures in numerous fields, including during the fight against #Hitler in WWII.

This but unironically. Don't block the road, and don't block the sidewalks. If that's hard for you to do while assembling peaceably, you belong in jail if not a mental hospital 😂

Peaceably assembling people ARE traffic, and if it's hard for them not to block the road, that means there are many of them, which means what they are protesting is legit and shouldn't be suppressed. Laws against blocking traffic were established to crush unions, by enabling scabs to cross picket lines. If you're filling the streets, then you have more right to be there than the sellouts trying to stab you in the back!

@cy I'm struggling to think of any cases over the past few years that peaceable assemblies that didn't impede road or foot traffic were obstructed in the #USA. Same goes for petitions.

Think unions, protests. Vietnam. Oil pipelines. 16 years after the first amendment, the government was all ready to trump up charges of coercion, violence, and conspiracy to destroy the first union in the USA. The whole thing about road and foot traffic is also about false charges. They're blocking a road with no traffic? Oh no they're blocking traffic!

I mean except for peaceably assembly, and petitioning the government for a redress of grievances. But the US gov has violently cracked down on those since 1791. -_-

@light I think when it comes to speech, we're not in the greatest place, but that is due to the behaviors of individuals, esp. violent ones, not anything that the #USA's federal government has done. I am not particularly concerned about repercussions against people who are supporting violence and terrorism. If you think citizens should be able to do so (the front page of #FIRE is focused on those stories), I respect that take, but I do think violence is the line of what should be tolerated.

@light #Fascism? Pretty sure it's race-centric #nationalism with no democracy or freedom to say much to criticize the regime.

If I'm wrong, it should be too far off-track.

The US seems to be moving in that direction from my vantage point here in the UK.

Trump's lawsuits. His and the FCC's jawboning of ABC. The political deportations. Etc.

      >race-centric #nationalism
Idk about this one. Republicans don't like immigrants, but generally just illegal immigrants IIRC. And I don't think it's race-centric.

@happyborg But what are the consequences?

Autism is definitely a disorder, even if I as a high-functioning autist am only just recently realising how much it disables me.
