   Just wasn't sure if some of you knew that.

     @Fragglemuppet I try not to boost posts with images and no #AltText It always feels like half a message if lots of people can’t “see” the image.

     @Pineywoozle @pinky @Fragglemuppet There’s an account that often posts good memes that I used to boost sometimes… until I looked at what is actually in the alt text on all their images: they just repeat the text from the actual post, which is usually just a snark that makes no sense without the image. I no longer boost or favourite them. I’ve tried commenting on multiple instances of their posts recently pointing out the issue, but I’m sure it’s some kind of bot and the authors don’t care.

     Yes, I am talking about you, @usluck . Stop it.

     @Pineywoozle Same! I have a filter that hides images with no alt text, but some users put the word "image" or something similar in their alt text, meaning they're not hidden by the filter. Grrr

     @Pineywoozle I'll suggest alt text and image descriptions if I really want to boost something that doesn't have it, but always think about all the images that stick around without alt text (or correct/meaningful alt tex, for that matter). 🫤

     Reminder, if you can't use alt text for some reason you can always use the hashtag #AltForMe and someone will describe it for you in a comment and use the hashtag #AltForYou

     @Fragglemuppet Somewhere on my feed I posted an image with no alt text, and the post talks it up like it's the funniest meme ever made. It's a blank image. It's intent was to make this very point.
     Nobody seemed to get it though.

     Some people just choose to give a description without posting the actual picture. That's alright with me, too! Though I know most people like to look at pictures.

     I'm guilty of that ... but my pics and links are just proof of what I wrote about ... and there's no counter here to say how many people looked so I assume only the people I follow, or are on the same server actually look at my rambling :)

     It's rare that I see people other than those I follow too ...

     But I will try to remember in future :)

     @Fragglemuppet Friendica instances don't provide for alt text on an image and although I try my best to remember to hand-type it, sometimes I forget or the image is too complex for a concise description, especially the ones that are images of a wall of text. I wish I had thought of it sooner to just type Alt = wall of text. At least that will give some idea of what the thing is.

     @2ndNatureDev As I mentioned, auto alt generally sucks. They do have a feature that can pull text from pictures, but I've been told that also isn't very good.
