     What is the difference between a cult and a religion?

     In a cult, the person at the top knows it's all a fraud.

     In a religion, that person is dead.

     @crazyeddie @jeffowski I like the metaphor in Small Gods, where organised religions grow so big that the God (which lives on belief) eventually dies, but no one notices because they started to worship the structure rather than the God.

     Religion should serve morality. A religion that is not doing this is never going to be a "good" thing.

     It's hard to explain. A religion that tries to be the foundation of morality is actually uprooted.
