@BroDrillard decimating gets misused because you say "the forces were decimated" - which means seriously reduced in fighting capacity, especially in ancient times

median vs average really falls into the same common misuse, where people treat "middle seeking" methods the same, conversationally.

There are a few words even reasonably smart people use incorrectly

decimating - means every 10th, not "majority of them"
exponential - this means a specific growth characteristic (n^x), not just "rather fast", or n^2. That would be quadratic, not exponential.
      median - vs average

Likely there are more, I'm just not remembering them right now.

@ShovelTrouble they use it in some social science stuff - basically to do what is done here to show that the data is skewed

@sickburnbro I've never seen modal average used outside of a classroom.

@BroDrillard @sickburnbro Gonzalo Lira was a sexpat spic greaser but one of his best bits was playing dumb and asking leftoids to define "ontologically" if they were stupid enough to try to use it to make a point

@Jonny @TrevorGoodchild @BroDrillard people get too up in their ass about it, ontology is essentially just classifying things

I never even heard the word ontology up until a few months ago, from Cliff High on Youtube. He said the opposite of ontology is "grit theory".

Yup, exponential basically means the base is constant and the variable quantity is in the exponent: c^x

When the variable is in the base and the exponent is constant it's called a power function: x^c

I've probably used exponentially rather than quadratic without even realizing it. Just not in my vocab wheelhouse. But I would also think it a compliment if someone called me reasonably smart.

Something tells me that the full definition of ontology is yet too be defined.
