    Sometimes I wonder about how much compute power is wasted on building a static blog or whatever as a multi-zone, multi-cloud docker image running on Kubernetes with automatic scaling and redundant load balancing. Because that's what "modern DevOps" looks like

    When it could just be a fucking VPS

      @ryanc I am firmly in the 80GB of NPM for 'hello world's is doing it wrong camp.

      Although, a VPS is still a bit overkill when having bare metal in a colo is an option. :)

      Yes I'm sure your Grafana chart with live IP geolocation of web traffic as you get hit by HackerNews is very, very impressive

      But is it worth the six figure cloud provider bill and SRE team running it?

      @CursedSilicon This happens this way, in my opinion, because the tools being told about, are designed for very specific workloads, that are:
      ⭐ so called "mission critical" (its downtime cost money)
      ☠️ readiness for massive requests spike, let it be fame, DDoS attack, or "Kiss of Fediverse" (see ⭐ )
      If you need tools in different mindset, you probably need to see #SmallWeb tools like what this person does: @aral 🧵

      @CursedSilicon @aral
      // Big Tech surveillance capitalists like Google, Facebook, etc., are factory farms for human beings. And their tools are designed to make it possible to build and run similar factory farms. If that’s not what you want to do, you should ask yourself why you’re using their tools and building things the way they tell you to. //
