When I see a strange phrase in Japanese (like 冷奴), I try to guess the original English and come up with a better translation. This afternoon, I saw 「有罪の愛」on someone's outfit. My guess is "Guilty Love" and my revision is 「禁断の愛」. Other ideas?
@Narako I have seen Americans wearing T-Shirts with strange phrases/words written in characters. But I can’t believe that someone used 冷奴 to mean “cool guy”! Little did they know that those two characters meant “cold tofu” (tasty and nutritious but a cheap not so cool food! ) ??? But I’ve also seen lots of Japanese people wearing T-shirts & jackets with all kinds of bizarre English phrases printed on them. “Lost in translation” cuts both ways!
