     I send my boomer dad Hitler/ nigga heil hitler instagram reels to annoy him and he will then call me from his landline and be like "HOW DO I GET THIS HITLER BULLSHIT OFF MY CELL PHONE!!!"
     
     he literally cant figure out how to get out of instagram on his phone and resorts to powering down the phone and restarting, even though i have shown him numerous times how to swipe out of an app

     here's a serious and overly long spergout if you want an actual answer, don't bother reading it if you're not interested: the st*am deck sucks because you have all the downsides of a modern portable system (shit battery life, shit specs, expensive, big) with all the downsides of troonix (if you want to play anything that's not in your st*am library which is arguably the only thing it's good at, you CAN install windows on it if you really want to though but you're still dealing with a desktop OS on a small screen and without a physical keyboard. also i just hate the prepwork involved) and all the downsides of pc gaming (modern unoptimized titles, older titles that you need to troubleshoot because the os/hardware is too new, bloated install sizes unless you're playing old titles, etc)
     
     i'm not saying buy the switch 2, fuck no lmao buy a used switch 1 and hack it if you REALLY must, at least it'll be lighter, cheaper and slightly more pocketable
     i'm just saying don't buy the st*am deck because it's THE overhyped r*dditard machine (all x86 handhelds are), anything it can do other things can do better
     in fact, i don't like and wouldn't buy ANY of these jack-of-all-trades-x86 machines (i was considering one of those gpd clamshells with a keyboard to play ffxi on when i was mildly drunk but then i sobered up and realized it's a stupid idea because the only times i bring portables outside is on train rides and unsurprisingly LTE is shit and unstable when you're going at 150-300kmh and when i'm inside i need to be having an incredibly shit day to not get out of bed/stay on the couch all day and even then just... just fucking stream the thing from your pc to your phone/tablet if you're at home anyway, steam link or whatever actually works pretty well), they're all the same: too expensive for what they are and can('t) do

     your phone (get your finger off of that > key right now owl, i can see you and i know what you're gonna say) covers the basics, just add a cheap universal phone controller holder thingy, if you want to emulate the gamecube/ps2/wii/3ds they work just fine on an SD855+ (most high end phone made in 2019+)

     buy used, buy chink phones like xiaomis/pocos (especially pocos) or ZTEs, buy used chink phones (i snagged a used sd8 gen2 leading chink phone with a few scuffs for 200€ and it works just fine aside from android being the worst piece of shit software ever after jellykino)

     yeah but to a lesser degree. it's substantially lighter (the difference is like one ugreen 10000mAh slim battery pack) and from what i can tell its battery life is similar to a steam deck with battery-saving settings (power limiting, 30hz, etc)

     as far as downloading and installing steam games yeah, if you need to install non-steam games you're always gonna need to tinker with stuff to some degree and at that point installing NSPs/homebrews on a modded switch is probably easier in most cases

     no, i sold mine right when the sephiroth dlc for ssbu dropped because i just didn't use it that much anymore (along with the gpd xd+)
     it was right around the time when i stopped needing to take those 6+ hours round trips to the hospital every few months

     look man, i just don't like those things, they always make me go "this is a miserable experience, i'd rather just wait until i get home" (just like the switch did but at least i set my expectations according to the price) before i whip out my phone to emulate etrian odyssey or radiant historia or the 495238239458th emerald playthrough because it's the only happy childhood memory that hasn't faded away yet :deadinside3:
