     @nyx @scathach one of my bigger complaints too is pgp has trust levels and they don't totally make sense anymore, I want to have trust levels that account for "knowing someone online" with other criteria for verification than "I checked their government id"

     @sun @scathach at this point we have better alternatives (age, minisign, Signal, etc) for most of what PGP does but WOT is the one thing where I am not aware of any alternative if you want to be able to cryptographically prove/verify that you are who you say you are without relying on centralized infrastructure. there's work being done on something like this that would be part of implementing E2EE on fedi, which is a really cool idea to leverage the fedi ecosystem for something like this (I mean every fedi account already has an ED25519 keypair ffs) but it's still in the proposal stage

     @nyx @scathach afaik the ed25519 is new, a lot of systems only have an RSA key but that doesn't change your post just being pedantic!
