People don't like Japan, people like the fantasy of an alternative to Western civilisation, the advantage of being rich in a poorer country, being special and worshipped due to being White in Asia, easy access to physically small and childlike sexual partners and services, and the freedom that comes from being wealthy in a country with very relaxed rule of law. Coming from Europe I found Japan to be the way you describe the USA, at first I blamed it all on Asian culture, but only a part of it is actually the fault of Asian culture, some of it is culture imported from the USA.
Mainly the hyper-capitalist stuff and not caring about people who don't have money. Things like allowing bad chemicals in the foods, allowing companies to do pretty much anything they want to their employees, etc.
Japan does have some earlier European influence and I think then a lot of USA influence after WW2 so its like a mix of both plus Asia.
Weird place, I'm curious to see what will be it's future, it's like a strange experiment, also the fact they have such a high density population and have to import everything, and they have China right there, very strange place.Fish of Rage likes this. -

@observer@nicecrew.digital Japan has problems too obviously, especially with the yakuza and cops being racist (every country has racist cops btw).
But as far as I know Japan's issues come nowhere close to the scale of China's issues, as China is a country that is currently actively committing genocides and is militarily pressuring independent nations.
And I do believe Japan is a functional democracy. Just because people keep voting for the same party that doesn't mean Japan isn't democratic. -

This is absurd, in Japan you can be arrested indefinitely without reason and without them having to inform anybody at all, not even your embassy, people have died before due to being under arrest for a long time and refused medical visits despite severe illness.
Any Japanese person can provoke you then claim you assaulted them, or straight up make everything up, and there is a high chance you will be arrested simply due to racism, they are brainwashed to think that all foreigners are criminals, and the "justice" system will entirely work against you, including your own lawyer.
Not the mention the human trafficking, sexual assault and harassment, the fact that they blanked ban foreigners and only foreigners from travelling when things like COVID-19 happen, the fact there is mafias in the center of Tokyo that actively victimize foreigners and the police turns a blind eye or straight up support them.
It pisses me off so much to see these Western governments kiss the feet of their enemies.
It isn't even a democracy, the same party has been ruling since 1947 up to today, and these Western governments act as if Japan was Norway, fucking idiots.
Every Western government functionary that lies to their citizens about how safe Japan is, should have their daughters travel alone to Japan. -

@observer@nicecrew.digital Being allowed to vote for the president directly is not what defines a functional democracy.
Japan has checks and balances that heavily limit the power of the ruling government and president. That's is what is really important. They actively have to work together with opposition to make laws, etc.
I believe in Japan and the USA the cops can get away with a lot more than in the EU.That I can probably agree with. But even EU cops are very fucking racist. -

It's not a functional democracy, they don't vote for a president, they vote for a guy who votes for a higher guy who votes for a higher guy all the way to the prime minister, and the system is so corrupt that anybody who is not going to fall in line is just not gonna be allowed to be in politics at all, so it doesn't matter who people vote for, the system dilutes their political will down to zero no matter what.
Yes China is way worse, but you said that the Dutch government said there was risks of going to the USA but then there was no risks mentioned about Japan, which is extremely absurd.
I believe in Japan and the USA the cops can get away with a lot more than in the EU. -

@observer@nicecrew.digital Even if you adjust the numbers to keep the under reporting in mind they are still lower than most EU countries.

@observer@nicecrew.digital I've also been to Barcelona and that city is in no way safer than Tokyo. Absolutely not.

I wouldn't send my daughter to a solo vacation to any metropolitan city but if I had to it would be Madrid or Barcelona, or any other European city with majority white people and Christian values, because in the case anything would happen the other white people would protect her.
In Japan they will walk by as she is being stomped on, not that it would happen in public anyway, she would be drugged and taken to a place where people can't see. -

Barcelona y Madrid están llenas de caribeños y moros. Cada vez se ven menos españoles en las iglesias (los católicos practicantes representan alrededor del 20% de la población) y, desde luego, no son lugares tan seguros en comparación con Japón.

@freetar@freesoftwareextremist.com @observer@nicecrew.digital Also the suggestion of "Christian values = safety" is absolutely hilarious to me. History books are full of atrocities committed in the name of Christianity. Same for any other religion.

Yes, I find it amusing that he claims Barcelona and Madrid are places of white people with Christian values when the churches are filled with Hispanic Americans, who are not usually white. In other words, only about 20% of the Spanish population across the country practices Catholicism. Moreover, the number of Muslims (approximately 5% of the population) is increasing daily.
I responded in Spanish because Spain is a country where most people don't even know how to pronounce "Wi-Fi" correctly (this is not a joke, and I'm not just talking about the elderly). In fact, it has the lowest level of English in all of Europe. Therefore, I seriously doubt that this "Christian" speaks Spanish (there is a serious disconnect between his imagination and the reality of the country), and just as he probably hasn't understood anything from my post, neither will any English speaker in Spain. -

My brother in Christ, he clearly hasn't even read the Bible. 2 Kings 2:23-25 literally recounts how God sends a bear to kill 42 children because they called a bald man "bald". I could continue, but I prefer that he reads it himself. -
