@VE2UWY@scott@VE3RWJ@HopelessDemigod I'm a tad older than you but I remember being horrified at how *stupid* the Imperial or whatever it is now system was. I still have nightmares. gah
The only thing I've ever found in favor of non-SI units is that the foot, being based on 12", is easily divisibly by 2 and 4 obviously, but also 3.
That and Fahrenheit degrees are smaller meaning you needn't resort to decimals as often. The counter to that is that no one can feel the difference between 19 and 20 C any more than they can feel the difference between 67 and 68 F.
@VE2UWY@scott@VE3RWJ@HopelessDemigod The best part there has not been a standard foot (or inch) and pound for years. They are defined off of metric metre and kilogram instead.
And all redefined in the past decade. No more "standard kilogram" kept in a vault! OK, that hasn't been the basis for measuring mass in quite some time, but they did work to get it down to known, measurable, presumably immutable quantities. WAY above my pay grade so had to hum through a lot of it but so much better than the "length of the King's" whatever.
@VE3RWJ@HopelessDemigod yeah, but those are metric watts, so it's more. Yes, watts are metric. I don't know what the native unit of power for non-metric countries would be. Would it be horsepower? Is that what our neighbors should actually be ham radioing in? (it's an easy conversion to remember... 745 watts to the HP, or just remember 747 like the airplane and you are close enough)
The golden dome system has been upgraded to include a geostationary 10 GHz ham radio satellite for North America. Not to be outdone by other countries it will have twice the output as its nearest competitor.
