   Today I woke up and decided I'm sick of doing a job that pays *less and less* the longer I participate in it. I've written at Forbes off and on (mostly on) since 2012, and the various pay cuts never end. That's not how you reward experience...

   I don't know what's next, but I know it's going to involve taking some personal and financial risks, and actively chasing joy.

     @thibaultamartin I avoided Deep Work because of that assumption, and it's sitting here on my shelf. Maybe I'll pick it up...

     The pride is a powerful factor in all of this. I feel like my superpower is telling stories, not telling people the news. Know what I mean? I'm not proud of my work at the moment.

     @killyourfm I recently read Deep Work by Newport. I expected it to be a stupid productivity book, but it really wasn't that. It has some "become a true winner that wins at winning" vibes, but also great advice.

     There's a section talking about craftsmanship, and how there was nothing noble being a blacksmith but people were still proud to do what they did. It was eye opening for me. Doing my job as best as I can is a source of satisfaction, at least as much as the output of my job.
