I've lived out of state. I've been through real storms. The big difference though is that in california, when it rains, it rains all day and is kinda static. Elsewhere it's more random, sudden, and heavier. Our weather isn't as chaotic here.

Californians have completely different troubles. When it rains they crash their cars.
And when it doesn't rain, they crash their cars. In November, a winter storm caused a 20 car pile up - and it was just... [checking notes]
...dust? (da fuck? that can't be right)

Been there. I remember one time when I saw the temperature drop 40 degrees in two hours. Been through a fair share of lightening and hail storms too.
California is mild by comparison. I think it's why most people here are so retarded. They've never seen bad weather. They've never seen rain drops that can pierce a shirt.

here it can not rain for a month and a half, then dump an entire month's worth of rain over the course of a few hours of thunderstorms

Pacific Northwest here. We're no strangers to days and days of rain. But it's like the land can deal with it so much better. I've seen sheets of water on I-5 firsthand and it really wasn't raining that hard. The difference is nuts.

But they remember the earthquake in 89, if they've been alive that long.

Earth quakes are weak. They're quickly a distant memory.

@Humpleupagus @caekislove @ChadleyDudebro @MCMLXVIIOTG @Sweetie_Squad_Liquidator @brimshae @deprecated_ii @duckitis @verita84 i rember when we got an earthquake
they were doing wastewater injection at an oil field in oklahoma and the rock formation had a heated gamer moment that was felt hundreds of miles away. and i blame a little crack at the tape seam on some drywall on this earthquake, which i still haven't fixed.
