    @istvan

    End to end encryption is totally required. It's just not sufficient. There is no one step solution. It's just a tool.

    Relying on old hardware or old code is at best security through obscurity, which is automatic lose. And no reason to believe old exploits are not still in use. Hardly anyone keeps up with the latest and greatest. My dentist still runs win7.

    It it's true, that xkcd cartoon, rather than deploy quantum systems to crack yr cool machine, you'll get arrested and force the password out of you. It's all about lowest cost.

    If you really need to keep secrets, don't use a computer. I'm not joking.

      @ThatCrazyDude @eriner I'm not sure there's really any point to encryption.

      I think any encryption algorithm publicly available is something the government can already break it if it wants to or when it needs to.

      If you actually had something they couldn't access they'd probably just kill you.

      I think it's might be better to use incredibly odd protocols that are not documented so someone has to bother reverse engineering it if they want to snoop.

      @istvan @eriner they sure do feel better than boofwongs. And they perform better. Even the stock antennas they ship with aren't too shabby.
      Probably the best option for somewhat reliable giveaway-and-forget radio put there if eavesdroppers aren't an issue. If you want to up your game to something digital that does AES-256 encryption, look up Radtel RT-4D. They can be had for about 50 bucks

      @istvan @eriner oh yeah, they're surprisingly good radios, especially considering the price. I just call them toys because I mostly use them for fucking around 🤣

      @ThatCrazyDude @eriner They feel a little more hardy than the Baofeng and there's more of a modding community, which is nice.

      @ThatCrazyDude @eriner Thanks. I know they're toy radios, but they've saved my butt a few times when weather turned in the mountains and there were no towers.

      Also really helpful in the mining area where it can be 30+ mins travel between areas you get 1 bar signal.

      @eriner @ThatCrazyDude Could be. Anyway for now I threw on the one from last time. That was enough to get CHIRP working so everything has friendly channel names for the wife and kids.

      @istvan @eriner I'm using regular egzumer on all those toys. Compiled with extra low power option enabled tho. You know for battery saving and some extra stealthiness.

      @eriner What's the firmware you recommended for Quansheng UV-K5 a while ago?

      Edit: Remembered the one I used on the last radio was from Ezgumer's repo. Anything better since last January? I don't want to deal with manually merging mods, just want to know the best option.
