@BowsacNoodle I’ve neither had, nor heard of any ill-effects. The powdered leaf adds significant bitterness, compared to the concentrated crystally stuff. It’s very, very sweet; not quite to saccharin level, but approaching it. It’s not a good sugar substitute, imo; but it does effectively permit the use of less sugar, to attain a desired level of sweetness - its best context I’ve found is tea/matcha/mate.
Yes. Apparently sweet stuff even artificial ones can trigger a glucose response reaction despite there not being any. Also, you're not meant to eat so much of it either.
@BadOptniks Total quantity would be very small though. I'm trying to make my own energy drink. I don't need it to be sweet, but I need to make it not taste like bitter water.
@BowsacNoodle According to Yuca it's not but I believe since it is fructose it's straight to the liver and stored as opposed to sugar being transformed to glucose and burned.
@mitchconner@jimmybuffettfanaccount Stevia isn't bad though, it's just not used correctly. Better to use it to touch up something that already has some flavor or use extract like the above so you get less alkaline taste.
@IlDuWuce As an occasional thing though, I feel like it's better than sucralose or hfcs. I am not a sweets person, generally, but if I can't have honey or real sugar I want something less bad.
@IlDuWuce Not on keto, just looking to make my own energy drinks (caffeine, B complex, L-theanine, ???) without a lot of extra calories or garbage. I could do a small amount of sugar or honey, but if I keep it "sugar free", it will keep substantially longer without preservatives.
It's all crap especially the artificial ones. Stevia is the least of them but still meh. You'll probably get similar results to eating sugar minus the calories. I do not know if this pertains to regular use or if occasional also triggers the reaction in people however. You on keto or something? Then definitely don't use it, because you'll get out of keto if I recall correctly.
@mitchconner@IlDuWuce Keto is different. Most people claiming keto are just low carb, which still works simply because carb restrictions tend to work in our backwards food pyramid works. I did keto literally 25 years ago and got super lean.
@mitchconner@IlDuWuce@BowsacNoodle Yeah and Paleo popped up even later than that, in my radar. I didn’t ever need to lose a lot of weight, myself - so it was only ever through knowing somebody, or social media eventually.
@BowsacNoodle@mitchconner@IlDuWuce I‘d never even heard of keto until after the Obama election. I think Atkins came up in around 2005 the first I’d heard, but man you got in early 🥂
