I literally had the Principal of my school tell me I was going to be homeless if I didn't stop cutting class and go to college.
Im doing pretty wekk I think, at least I don't have massive loans or degrees in whatever this shit is.
I'm gonna be smug today.

@ins0mniak I have a college degree and it hasn't made me any better. Plus, I used my military benefits to pay for it.
All the money spent on this shit is just making college campuses fancier and fancier.

@ins0mniak @Shlomo What I don't like about the current state of unis is that the degree oversaturation works. If you want what was a decade ago considered a normal, non-fancy position, you now need a degree for that. And the uni will not proper you for that kind of position either. After you graduate, you can throw away 85% of that knowledge.
IT is one of the last sectors, where actual knowledge and certifications matter more than a paper from some random uni.

@phnt @Shlomo Yeah, truth, its a scam here because on top of needing the degree, you have to fund it, which means going into debt for the rest of your life. It used to be cheap but the government and the schools know its guaranteed money so it just gets higher and higher cost-wise for far less value.
IT, I think takes a certain kind of person, someone whos going to want to learn with or without a degree.
The gatekeeping is obnoxious. Those comptia certs and goofy IMO.

@ins0mniak @Shlomo CompTIA is a meme, but stuff like Cisco certs at least were pretty good. Of course there was a ton of attempted vendor lock-in, but there also was good information you probably wouldn't find easily elsewhere. And they were cheap. But that was also ~6 years ago.

@phnt @Shlomo Yeah I don't know what they go for now.
The cisco stuff is actually pretty fun to work with, they have some free online education stuff that anyone can access. I honestly with they had that way back when.
Ive noticed that the cloud certs seem to be really cheap comparatively. I think Amazon and such is really needing to find people for all of that.

@ins0mniak @Shlomo I don't know how it's now, but their console management is amazing compared to the modern webshit from Ubiquity, MikroTik and Dell I have to work with nowadays.

@phnt @Shlomo I used to work for Dell, it was a nightmare man.
Worst company ever.
But yeah I agree, I think Cisco has always been solid in a lot of ways.
