@RedTechEngineer @Suiseiseki your jpeg didn't render on poast, and perhaps it didn't work on freesoftwareextremist either. -

@lichelordgodfrey @RedTechEngineer Tor Browser doesn't come with a jpegxl renderer, thus I used ffpmeg to encode it into a format that it can display. -

@lichelordgodfrey @Suiseiseki heres a screenshot in legacy jpg so your browser can see it. But in the future I suggest using a better web browser like:
https://thorium.rocks/ (chromium based)
https://www.waterfox.net/ (failfox based)
https://apps.gnome.org/Epiphany/ (based)
its also supported in Safari (if your browser can't even compete with Safari it's objectively bad)Phantasm likes this. -

@RedTechEngineer @lichelordgodfrey >thorium is under 3 clause BSD
Ah yes, a license specially written to permit turning the software into proprietary software and also being able to incorporate proprietary software into the project.
Looking at the website, it's named after a radioactive element and they call GNU/Linux "Linux" (even with Android in the same sentence) and it's compiled with LLVM - guaranteed proprietary without needing to look further tbh.In conversation permalink -

@phnt @RedTechEngineer @lichelordgodfrey If a project is proudly GPLv3-or-later or AGPLv3-or-later or GPLv2-or-later and is proudly stated to be free software, you can be confident that it is free software.
If a nontrivial project is under a weak license and claims to be "open source", such project is suspect, as every single time I look and I keep finding proprietary software.
KFC is fried chicken, but bad somehow, so of course it's proprietary.
Of course a strong neurotoxin would be proprietary.In conversation permalink -

@waff @RedTechEngineer @lichelordgodfrey The liars aren't in the free software movement - they're in the "open source" (proprietary bootlickers) movement. In conversation permalink -

@lichelordgodfrey @RedTechEngineer jpegxl is not a variant of jpeg - it's a different incompatible format with different magic.
Although, there is a program that can losslessly convert jpeg's to jpegxl's with a smaller file size too.In conversation permalink -
