That 90M number includes a lot of people that were micro-targeted with some very specific misinformation/disinformation. They aren’t stupid, but they aren’t as attentive to the details of what’s going on. So those messages have a big impact.

I think this gets missed quite often. It’s a hard problem, as negative ads are effective. It’s worse when they are subtle and cause you to vote (or not vote) against your best interests.

      yup

incel drek is hyped as a political method

any stupid shit (antivaxxers, TERFs, creationists, etc)

you appeal to a segment of society (rightfully) rejected, then you indoctrinate them

why right before the 2020 election there was a sudden interest in flat earthers?

they always existed. so why the hype?

      it wasn't organic:

appeal to a segment of dum dums, embrace them, move them into your tent

Think that we way underestimate the impact of all this manipulation.

"...don't forget the troll farm disinfo psyop campaigns on social media selling helplessness despair and cynicism."

Right now huge segments of teenage boys and young men in the US and UK are psyop programmed psychotic misogynists, and the deliberate psyops reaches into every other demographic. We're all being programmed.

      No, there aren't too many.

Per @benroyce's post, all that’s needed is to make sure that non-voters actually show up to the polls and cast for Ds. If everyone who voted for Biden had voted for Harris, she'd have won easily.

(Graphic shows U.S. presidential election results 1976 - 2024 ranked per percentage of eligible voters. In every year except 2020, proportion of “did not vote” is higher than for any candidate.)

      Yup.

And telling people they're deplorable or moronic is not going to build what you need.

One of the major issues in my precinct is that voters feel that the Democrats are as bad for their daily lives as Republicans.

I attended Coach Walz and Beto's town hall. There was a lot of talk about saving the middle class.

Many of my voters feel that this isn't them. They rent. They work multiple jobs. Some of them I only connect with when the city is shut down because they are normally at work or asleep.

When I was growing up, the Dems were the party of working people. It doesn't seem like that now.

      Two issues:
      1) America is first past the post, so third parties often harm the parties they should be allied with.

      2) Republican have abandoned voting on policy or principle. They vote for tribal power. They will be very hard to split.

IMO, the better strategy is a very broad Dem party (far left to centre right). But reframe as "fighters" to lure some of the GOP voters drawn by that.

But more than anything, anyone anti-MAGA needs to be rebuilding communication networks outside the rightwing control (or complicit MSM)

That means off techbro social media, as well as supporting leftist and investigative media. It requires rebuilding social groups and protests.

Without that, no message gets out and the voters are (again) manipulated by propaganda.

      yes

the centrism of the democrats is why the right is winning

      the question is:

      how do we fix it?

we can't do 3rd party, our fptp system means we divide the left and the right wins again

the only way forward is to take over the democratic party, treat it like an empty vessel, and kick out the spineless centrists

      that requires voting

      especially in #primaries2026

we need to mob them and get 50 AOCs

While I completely agree about taking over the Dem party to pull it leftwards, I disagree that alone is the solution.

Jeremy Corbyn's terrible showing in the UK 2019 election (despite lots of excitement and supporters) shows what a Bernie or other progressive candidate would do in the US.

Most critical is breaking the rightwing stranglehold on media (online and trad).

@TCatInReality @benroyce @72mz @MannyDexter @MrBirch @grumble209 @todymotmot @wendinoakland @profdc9 @zakalwe there needs to be a centrist party that draws voters from the Reps. Split them, give them the rightmost Dems and win with a progressively renewed Democratic party.
