If you want the fasting rules for a given day, the Orthodox Calendar here has them: https://www.holytrinityorthodox.com/htc/orthodox-calendar/
They also have an Android and iOS app for the calendar: https://www.holytrinityorthodox.com/htc/orthodox-calendar/android-app/
There is also a printable wall calendar available here that we downloaded and got color printed on 11x17 pages from staples: https://churchofthedormition.com/revfrpaulfefelovscalendar

@grey What do you actually eat during strict fast? Seems like the options are limited to fruit and veggies and nuts and mostly or exclusively raw food? Wife and I were trying to plan out some other stuff, but everything uses some type of oils. Personally, I am less concerned about oil since we don't store it in animal product jars anymore, but I'm not trying to be a rules lawyer about this.

@Paultron @grey Steaming we could do, but just trying to get more recipe ideas. Also sucks that some of the kids are in the I HATE VEGETABLES stage rn.

@BowsacNoodle @grey if you want to cook vegetables without oil try a steamer or parboiling for like a minute then blanching with cold water. The second method is the way my ma likes em

@grey @Paultron Their answer about taste doesn't address the thing I've heard regarding oil and storing it in bladders back in the day. Regardless that's good to know the distinction purely for flavor exists. Our church asks us for two strict fast days and general abstinence from meat on Wednesday/Friday at minimum. Most of us do additional stuff, such as some going full vegetarian or vegan for the fast. I'm going to reduce meat and stop liquor, but I can't go vegan or I'll feel like garbage.

@BowsacNoodle @Paultron I do various things.
On strict fast days, I just eat bread, dried fruit, nuts mostly. I will also just have various fancy wild rice blends with soya sauce. But I generally don't have to prepare food for others or children.
I do have a cookbook, but for the xerophagy days it's mostly salads with no oil or vegetables or starches cooked without oil.
In Slavic traditions, the no oil proscription extend to all oils, not just olive oil. Strictly speaking it should only be bread or other grains, fruit, nuts and vegetables cooked with salt and water. But in practice shellfish are often had, and in Greek churches vegetable oil other than olive oils are used. Other people in your Church should have ideas as well.

@Crux_Invictus @BowsacNoodle @Paultron Wednesday is because of Christ's betrayal by Judas. Friday is because of the Crucifixion.
