Yeah, the alt text is bad here because my brain didn't even register that it's two landings separated by a single step
Then again, it took me five years to see the mismatched wood, so it seems the handrail fail soaked up all my 'annoyance' cycles and I couldn't even process the other terrible design issues
+ there is an addional step on the landing.
@kims I have a similar staircase in my home with the one step in the middle of the landing. At night that one step is hard to see and a serious hazard. I installed battery operated motion lights throughout the stairway and it's the best thing I did that year. The handrails were both toward the center so at least I didn't have to deal with that.
