@robin @penny the thing is, mozilla is plain incompetent. Like, I did use it for a good time while waiting for a bug that fucked up chrome to be fixed. A year or so passed, and guess what, it was fixed and I went back to chrome.
Beyond something intangible (privacy, for me) there was no upside to using firefox. Power usage? much higher than chrome. Video decode? somehow much much less efficient than chrome and mpv (these two having similar consumption) and it was quite buggy and stuttery as well. -

@robin @penny I'm very pragmatic, and that's why I use chrome, but if I were to be more honest, I want Gnome web to be more efficient and fast, to the level of chrome. I'd use it over Chrome. But welp, that is yet to happen if ever, but there's been a good evolution of it lately. -

@mischievoustomato@tsundere.love @penny@mk.noob.quest i think it all comes down to the simple fact mozilla wants to group the "just got on the internet" crowd as well as the "privacy aficionado power-user" crowd, which of course is almost impossible as even though most websites are convenience-based now, mozilla doesn't really offer convenience in terms of streaming, config/setting toggling, etc. if i were mozilla i'd invest in just biting the bullet and making a webkit-based browser for the normals and keep gecko for the privacy-oriented types. idk.

@robin @penny Consider how mozilla development goes, i doubt they want any kinds of users at all. Making 2 versions of the thing would be even worse. I'd suggest them working on efficiency and speed, but they're not as big as chrome so they simply can't do it. -

@mischievoustomato@tsundere.love @penny@mk.noob.quest if they were to develop efficiency and speed into gecko (keep in mind, i'm a novice of how coding works, so this may be a non-issue.) that would open holes into the privacy-based sector of firefox, right? something like webgl (hell, javascript in general), for example, is very useful for efficiency and convenience, but it has huge privacy concerns for people who use VPNs, or are concerned about finger-printing. it seems like that would isolate the rest of their base, and it'd be easier to develop a new engine or use webkit (but, like you said, this is idealistic considering they don't have the resources or capital for a project of this capacity).

@robin @penny it doesnt have to be that way, but you either put toggles or try to balance stuff.
