@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain Let's just cut out the middle steps.
We should just put up massive signs on the doors of all libraries and on the front pages of all book selling websites, as well as print them on all e-readers and make them the opening page of all reading apps.
And these signs should all say
"TRIGGER WARNING: literature may mention unpleasant things"

@Gnomeshatecheese @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I have a solution. It's really progressive and it means that nobody will ever feel sad again. -

@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain All literature classrooms are to put up a massive sign above the door, à la Dante.
ABANDON ALL HOPE, YE WHO ENTER HERE

@Gnomeshatecheese I know, right. I put a really visceral murder scene in my last uni submission, and was absolutely not putting a fucking trigger warning on it.
Anyway, the lecturer really liked it. I was a bit worried tbh, because at the start of every lecture, we had to write our names and pronouns on a piece of paper 🥱 -

@HebrideanHecate @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain People love it. They love being told what to do and what to think. And there's no shortage of useful idiots who will tell them it's good for them.
I had a chap on FB telling me it was kind to give people trigger warnings because they couldn't find anything out for themselves. -

@HebrideanHecate @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I have a few theories.
People like to outsource their thinking, because thinking is hard and time consuming. It's also not taught very much, so people don't know how to do it (see how many stupid arguments are made for *trans* which people *can't* or didn't refute).
People don't like to have to change their minds or admit mistakes because we reward *being right and perfect* rather than the process of decision making (look how we like to knock people off pedestals or bemoan U turns).
We live in a culture of credentialism and qualifications, many of which mean jack shit, but people still defer to them regardless. So people feel uneasy about questioning *authority* (and look how that turned out with Whitty, Vallance et al).
People are essentially kind, so they will go along with anything that makes them look kind, even if it isn't. They fail to notice the bad faith actors who will exploit this (unfettered illegal immigration anyone?).
There will always be people who love to boss people around, especially in the name of *for their own good* and I find it scary how few people are prepared to tell them to either mind their own or just fuck off. -

@KeepTakingTheSoma @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I have to say that I want to slap them all purple for it, even as a very small child I could not tolerate this kind of idiocy, it always worked me up.
