The fact that the boomers I deal with are barely functional when it comes to any sort of tech, like pdfs, word docs, or simple email makes me so upset.
To think this is what our government is makes me so, very, sad.

@NotoriousDOG @Tony i believe menards is singlehandedly keeping the concept of mailing an envelope alive in the midwest

Try explaining addressing and sending mail to a zoomer or burning a cd

@Tony wait til you encounter the zoomers who are utterly baffled by the concept of a file system
-

But for general day to day stuff, a file system isn't really something you need to know about unless you're in IT...
I'm talking about barely functional boomers who can't even handle cash registers or email...
I've read some places that millenials and gen x to some degree are the only ones who will ever really be computer literate. Because we grew up with every stage.
zoom zooms grew up in the world of apps, so idk how many of them can even type on a real keyboard anymore.

I told my mom to download ublock so she doesn't have to watch ads. She said she's afraid it will give her a virus. So she downloaded mcafee to "scan her computer". Now she thinks all the warnings that pop up are from ublock viruses (that she didn't download). Instead of downloading a trusted app from the app store she installed an antivirus that is in fact, a virus.

@skylar @Tony Google Chrome is their operating system. It does everything you could possibly ever want to. And Onedrive/GDrive is their file system.

@Tony you don't need to know about file systems, until you're staring blankly at the screen wondering where your files are

My files are in the clouds.

The other day I had another lawyer ask me if I scanned a zip file before sending it. It contained documents I produced on my office computer, which is the most secure computer in my house. I nearly slapped her.

@yomiel @Tony @NotoriousDOG @skylar oh I thought you meant the pens
-

@yomiel @Tony @NotoriousDOG @skylar I like my Japanese erasable ink cartridge pens, I think those would have more advantages than a fountain pen since the only non-math writing I've done in the last year has been Latin/Russian noun conjugation tables

@Cyrillic @Tony @NotoriousDOG @skylar
You can still write cursive with a standard cartridge Biro, it just doesn't flow as well.
I'd still recommend learning cursive. The Palmer method is the classic American method and the guides are really easy to follow (quite literally for schoolchildren)
You might think it's useless for you but I guarantee you'll have to write something one day and if you have shit handwriting the other person will get annoyed at you.

Once you learn it it's literally easier and looks nicer. Also try using a fountain pen, It's harder with a Biro.

lol burning a what? They probably don't even know what a cd is or what mail is.
I was talking to my boom boom aunt last week, and she and her other boomer friends are starting a committee (and literally talked to the governor of their city) about implementing cursive classes in school again.
They literally have no concept of what the world is like anymore. It's time for them to all go to their respective old people homes honestly.

@Tony @NotoriousDOG @skylar cursive classes are good tho, at least for schools where you still will have writing exams done by pen.
outside of school yeah not so much, the only time I use a pen is for maths or diagramming, never to write an essay.

@Tony @skylar My father has that mindset that he must watch ads, because bypassing them is apparently illegal and it was always funny hearing him complaining about unskippable ads on YT interrupting his music listening session. Of course he fixed that "problem" by paying for Apple Music, because he's a devout Apple user now after switching from Android.

I KNOW the feel like they are required to watch ads???

@Tony @skylar I know elderly people that literally want to see ads, because it shows them stuff they never saw and "need" to buy. Of course they probably didn't even know the product existed before they saw the ad.
