   I feel I have a reasonable opinion but it seems civil discorse is dead in these times. I'm just curious to know why I see nothing but doom posts on my feed.

     @gocu54 @lynnskyi I spent his whole first term saying things like "well I don't think he would..." and "They wouldn't let him..." and "that couldn't actually happen..." and "well sure, but he wouldn't go that far..." and every single time the thing in question happened, so I just don't say that anymore.

     @gocu54 I think that may be because the federal government is being dismantled, and the federal work force is being decimated. Those of us mentioning it aren't being gloomy, it's a fact--One I don't know how to characterize as positive because it isn't. This is today's reality. The other reality is that the US may be looking at a dictatorship. Hard to see anything positive in that either.

     @JustinMac84 @lynnskyi @gocu54 And that's just what I feel too many people are doing, including myself at times, I admit. A lot of people assume that if life is reasonably good for them, it must be good for everyone else, and that's just not the case.

     @gocu54 @JustinMac84 @Fragglemuppet Right here in the state in which I live, we had an attempted takeover by a racist and his ilk, of a small community where the goal was to establish a Nazi society. The community stood up to it, and the guy was put on probation and left the community. So, yes, this stuff is very real.

     @Fragglemuppet @gocu54 @lynnskyi When I heard about the Nazi salute, I straight up cried. That Musk got away with it in the western world terrifies and saddens me. I didn't realise how much I trusted democracy to keep me safe and now I don't feel safe. I live in another country and I am afraid for my son. This isn't the world I wanted for him.

     @Fragglemuppet @JustinMac84 @gocu54 That feeling of powerlessness is very real. Life is reasonably good for me, but I know it is not reasonably good for others, and unless we, collectively, care about those others, one day, life will no longer be reasonably good for us either.

I still have hope that we'll get through this, somehow, and we'll be able to look back at this as a bad piece of history that we just happened to live through. Other generations had there's right? We've actually been pretty lucky 'til now, right? But there's another, thankfully smaller, part of me that says that's naive.

     @Pawpower @gocu54 @JustinMac84 @Fragglemuppet Have people really forgotten what went on on January 6, 2021? Lots of Nazi saluting, a gallows to hang then VP Pence, major destruction of property, violence, murder. It all happened, and now we have a President who pardoned almost all of those insurrectionists. And that seems to be okay with his political party in general, and his party's members of Congress also. So please do not try to convince me all is well. And let's not forget about Trump's immunity, gifted to him by the US Supreme Court. So there's a plague of complicit behavior sweeping the country, mostly unchecked. And then this is all compounded by his having a second chance, and is well on his way to success this time.

     @lynnskyi @Pawpower @gocu54 @Fragglemuppet That immunity thing. That was unbelievable. I remember when NPR broke it down on UP First just before the election. It was terrififying. Really chilling news broadcast. I couldn't believe the mainstream media was telling me, as I drank my coffee, that the President can do whatever he likes and pardon whoever he likes for doing things on his behalf.

His approval rating is the lowest it has ever been, I'm sure most of the country is very unhappy with what has been happening so far. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets what he deserves.
