I was up half the night thinking about this. I very much hope Biden gets the legacy he deserves for both giving Israel carte blanche for genocidal behavior AND what that wrought for us back home in the US:

@inquiline that data is... stunning. Wow. Folks have spent months swearing up and down it was a fringe issue and that "most" Americans would never care.

@nev @inquiline I think you're exactly right that that's what they did, and I think the wildly depressed turnout was the result. I am curious to know if the sample is intended to be representative of the subset of the population that they targeted. I may do some digging bc it's not necessary impossible depending on how they did their sampling.

@inquiline @tillshadeisgone ah, I see what you mean. I was getting more at, "is the Biden-but-not-Harris group big enough that it made a difference in the election?" and "is 600 people a big enough sample size to be representative of *everyone* who voted for Biden but not Harris?" (I don't really know much about polling.)
My thought is that the party leadership might well make, or have made, a calculated decision to alienate some voters in order to appeal to others.

@nev
Sorry, maybe I misunderstand the question but the reason this data is especially meaningful is that 100% of the people polled had voted for Biden, i.e. were not people who could be said to reject D pol's tout court, and they weren't nonvoters either. It's a more meaningful sample than the public at large for that reason, and a less noisy signal. -

@tillshadeisgone @inquiline What I'd really like is an estimate of *what that total group was*. This particular poll had like 600 people, but how representative are they of the American public? Like, of the people who did not vote for Harris, how many of them previously voted for Biden?
