How long can bird flu survive outside of a host?
Can you pick up bird flu from touching a surface that may have had bird droppings on it.?

Just asking as part of this conversation

So a lot more contagious then made out then. As we get the impression you need direct contact with birds. So how do you mitigate these risks, clearly walking around in hamzat suits is not practical, maybe it will be down to regular hand washing, which should happen anyway.

Depending upon serotype and conditions, upto 8 weeks, I believe. It's much hardier than COVID.

      "The virus survived up to 18 h at 42 °C, 24 h at 37 °C, 5 days at 24 °C and 8 weeks at 4 °C in dry and wet faeces"

In the UK they would be required to wear PPE provided by the employer and that PPE must be fit for purpose. As for handwashing for the population it would be normal during the covid pandemic to have hand gel in every shop for example, now less so, so the risk is there.

I still carry some with me, and use, Other than useful for my job, it is just good hygiene.

People are going back to their lax, complacent mindset the further covid slips in to history.

There is a difference between "virus survival" and "infective dose" but still this shows that there is a possibility for infection if you somehow ingest 8 week old bird poop.

I don't know what protection poultry workers are required to wear, but I'd hope gloves, mask, eye protection would be standard.

And yes, regular effective hand washing were appropriate.
