   If they decide based on your domain identity, it's probably that you were actually spamming. I'd welcome any evidence to the contrary, but AFAICT a good 75% of the "don't host your own email because you'll get falsely accused of spamming and blocked everywhere" is from people who run businesses that want to spam (i.e. send anything other than receipts & account recovery emails).

     I’ve created and run thousands of private mail services over the years with custom domains with fresh reputation. When properly configured they should never be denylisted. Heck, I’ve done this for market research companies that actually do send ‘spam’ with no issues

     @ehproque @SecurityWriter @jherazob @AlexanderMars @rk @protonprivacy @nextcloud I forget, I might have added DMARC records equivalent to the default ("no, I don't want DMARC"). Gmail will occasionally flag something with weird forwarded MIME from me as spam, but generally I don't have problems.

     No, Microsoft especially has started taking the policy that email coming from a domain without a long-established reputation is automatically spam, and you have to jump through hoops to get it delivered. But all of the major providers have started doing this.

     I've been running my own mail server using the https://mailinabox.email service on my own domain with a fixed IP for six years, and I still have delivery problems. I am not a spammer, a quick look in Thunderbird indicates I had 28 email conversations in the past 12 months.
