    The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) is the founding and sole legal party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.   That is absolutely not true. Vietnam was a direct consequence of russian ambitions that wrecked a country and we failed the information game. We fucked up, but ask any Vietnamese person in New Orleans how they felt about the Soviet cancer and they will tell you.

  i don't know what to tell you. economic sanctions do work and they are real. their effects just don't manifest in a way we can appreciate with dramatic flair. stop looking for dramatic stark effects on this topic (unless there's an economic collapse, which is a long way away, but even then, i'm wondering if you would admit sanctions would have played a roll in that, when they would have)

  The current Ukraine war has become a war of attrition. Whiz bang gadgets don't win wars. I've heard all this before, those cheerful chuckleheads in Saigon on the Friday Night Follies, telling us how many Vee Cee they'd killed. We dropped more ordnance on Laos and Cambodia than all of WW2, German and Allied, including the nuclear weapons.

  the problem with that is if you go all in from the get go on economic sanctions, you have nowhere to go to if russia behaves even worse
  the way to use economic sanctions is to gradually accumulate them if russia stays shitty, gradually roll them back if russia acts better, and clamp them down tighter if russia acts even worse
  it's not like firing a gun or setting off a bomb, there's huge inertia involved and you push and pull, harder or softer

  ... and it was totally unnecessary. All Putin had to do, when he came to power, was keep his cronies happy. Put an economic marble on that terrain, it would roll straight to Moscow and St Petersburg. Russia could be amazingly wealthy.
  He would have friends.
  But he's such a shitweasel, incapable of thinking strategically.
