Ronnie21093 (ronnie21093@varishangout.net)'s status on Sunday, 12-Jan-2025 23:59:05 JST Ronnie21093 :kekw: So apparently, Microsoft's newest update to W11 a while ago broke a bunch of Steam games. It was so shit that they stopped pushing the update out :cirno_laugh: -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Sunday, 12-Jan-2025 23:59:05 JST 翠星石 @Ronnie21093 They've released a bunch of updates over a year that break explorer.exe and have no fix.
Yes, that's right, when you try to use the file manger, it immediately crashes and crashes the whole desktop too (explorer.exe crashes so often that they've now added a function that auto-restarts it), making the computer pretty much unusable (sure you can launch .exe's and browse in cmd, but many things are dependent on the file manager) and the only fix is to reinstall windows.
Of course the only acceptable fix is to install Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Monday, 13-Jan-2025 00:03:08 JST 翠星石 @Ronnie21093 @beardalaxy microsoft constantly releases broken updates, which means that every single windows computer ends up broken in some way via a broken update (there's an auto-rollback feature that undoes a failed update that gets triggered a LOT).
There is no way to disable automatic updates via a standard mechanism - you need to use a patching script that microsoft will undo every few months via their ultra-forced update backdoor.
You actually have to pay extra for the "LTSC" to get slightly less broken updates.
Yet more reasons you'd have to be an idiot use windows. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Monday, 13-Jan-2025 00:03:57 JST 翠星石 @Ronnie21093 The bug happens on windows 10 too, although the windows 11 update can trigger it.
You should break the shackles and install GNU/Linux. -

>Tards: "Windows 11 has gotten so much better! Besides, Windows 10 support ends this year so you're retarded if you don't switch!"
Meanwhile, Windows 11: *Shit constantly breaking with each update*
Gee, and those retards wonder why I'm still on Windows 10 :chino_sip: -

For your sake and time, it's better if you don't try to convince me. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Monday, 13-Jan-2025 00:07:07 JST 翠星石 @Ronnie21093 Please do not switch to that proprietary kernel (you'll be disappointed when your computer fails to boot with just Linux).
Switch to GNU for your freedoms sake. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Monday, 13-Jan-2025 00:10:06 JST 翠星石 @beardalaxy @Ronnie21093 Most people are forced to pay for windows.
If you ever buy a computer from a store that sells computers that come with windows, microsoft has a tax on all of them, whether they come with windows or not.
Any computer part you buy has a microsoft tax on it too.
Even if you were to get a copy of proprietary malware gratis, that doesn't make it not proprietary malware.
Regardless, the problem with windows is not that it has a price (although it has a huge price), the problem is that it is malware and spyware that does not respect the users freedom. -

I'll get a little toast popup saying it's time to update like once every couple days but that's it.
You can also use winutils and change updates that way extremely easily. For instance, just getting security updates or disabling updates entirely (not the greatest idea but sure).
