Like, look, fascist regimes before this accomplished their propaganda objectives by banning "independent" media and seizing control of the propaganda apparatus through force.
These fascists have realized they can accomplish the EXACT SAME GOALS by simply BUYING up all the media organs (including SOCIAL media) and the fact that there's a transaction involved will prevent rubes from realizing it's still the same operation with the same purpose as the Nazis had.
This isn't that complex.

And you can say "okay but not ALL media" and of course in some ways you're right; but you have to consider the effects in the context of scale here. I can write whatever the fuck I want on my independent blog and it's a drop in a hurricane of nazi propaganda; they don't need to buy me, or buy everyone, when they control all the largets microphones and can simply drown out dissent. "Who is they?" Rich people who want to burn the world for money and know you won't WILLINGLY choose to die for them.

None of this is left wing theory, everything I'm describing to you is based on documented history and things we all agree on even if you think I'm an unhinged pinko extremist. You KNOW rich people own EVERYTHING, you KNOW they've bought up vast swathes of our media across multiple mediums, you KNOW they're paying to install fascist political leaders - you're just not putting it together because you've been trained to never consider it might all be related and on purpose.

That's "why now" and "why fascism" all rolled into one. Throw in that from an ideological perspective the entire propaganda apparatus/model of Western Society has ALREADY BEEN GEARED to protect capitalism at all costs and through all methods, including lying to you in the open, because of a little thing we call "the Cold War" and you have literally all of the puzzle pieces in front of you.
The rich guys KNOW you're figuring it out, so they're creating a society where you KNOWING is irrelevant.

i feel like some of this is actually kind of accidental. like, the terrible people doing terrible things just *happen* to have stumbled on a combination that works this well and they don't need to understand *how* it works to just keep doing it. i don't deny in the slightest they're doing it, i just don't think they're smart enough to have done it ALL on purpose

@GhostOnTheHalfShell I still think people around me haven't put it together that these are not all unfortunate consequences of capitalism unchained, but rather a concerted effort to reshape society in such a way that it's possible to keep burning the world for money even as it kills us all.
Indeed, it's still quite common for me to encounter HIGHLY educated people who believe capitalism stands in OPPOSITION to fascism and the destruction of the planet.
Hence why I write, what I write.

I don't want to waste a lot of time explaining how it all works in intricate detail because THAT'S the part you need years of study to untangle one thread at a time. You don't study power, so you tend to think of people who operate in a capitalist society and its apparatus as independent actors while ignoring the (often concealed) reality that a very small number of people own everything in that society. But the information is out there if you want to find it.

For example - how does ownership of the media by billionaire fascists construct a propaganda model when plenty of individual journalists sincerely BELIEVE they're truth tellers and not serving a larger purpose for the people who own the media.

All this time I'm trying to show you something that you can show other people, tell other people around you. I'm not important; I don't believe in "important" people at all. But the folks that run this shitshow aren't gonna show us, so we must show each other.
