    @RickiTarr

    I do feel that some men / boys have a very unhealthy entitlement, but look at how soccer players behave, or how tech bosses behave (all men) and you start to see how role models can be good or bad, and there is an influence there.

    I would hope this is less of an issue on fedi and that we can all move forward in the right direction and just treat each other respectfully regardless what or who we choose to be. I do feel we are building a nice culture here.

    This is some way off but

    International day of women and girls in science – 11th February

    what can we do here on fedi, to really clebrate this? How can we celebrate this?

      Misogyny is so strange, as it will mock and even kill something just because women like it. If women like stuff they're supposed to like (romance novels, romantic comedies, cutesy anime, female centered TV shows) they will be mocked for it, but if women like something that's marketed towards men, even more so. Shows like Supernatural and Sherlock actively wrote episodes and characters to mock their female fans. Sons of Anarchy had one of it's very popular female characters brutally raped and eventually murdered. The MCU won't stop listening to angry young men when they don't like shows and movies (She Hulk, Captain Marvel, Agatha, Black Widow) that aren't even about them. Why does the demographic even matter here? Is women's money different than men's? There are more of us, why is so much media pandering to the young male demographic. It's so stupid, just let women enjoy and create fandoms. Not everything needs to be filtered through the male experience or a sexed experience at all.

      I agree there, papers such as the daily fail do this all the time, there was a article about a young female tennis player who has great talent, but she was described as 'hot' but given the accompanying photo not in the talent way more, as 'hot' in the sexual way and was posing for the photo accordingly, so immediatly became a sex object.

      Shame we can't treat upcoming (or any) atheletes in a way that focuses on their talent and potential in their chosen sport.

      I guess this is less of an issue in mens sport as that is better funded, which is an issue but one that would detract from the main point of the thread here.

      @maxleibman @RickiTarr it’s kinda gay in a Dorian Way. Like making skinny girls the acme of sex objects…they end up looking like prepubescent boys

      @RickiTarr “Is women’s money different from men’s?” is exactly the question. Misogyny trumps even capitalism.

      Many have observed it, but my favorite source is Tom Peters—an aged cishet white male management consultant—who introduced me to the concept twenty years ago: women buy Damn. Near. Everything. The majority of purchasing decisions, business and personal, are either made directly by or strongly influenced by women.

      That marketing dollars chase men so hard is absurd. But they do.

      @RickiTarr it's terrifying whenever a video game comes out with a female main character, incels will be screaming into every comment section they can get their keyboards on "I will be cheering for this to fail!" They review-bomb the game, they harass the people who made it, they create fake screenshots and rumours to make it look bad, they try to kill it in every way they can.

      And they call themselves "video game fans". 🙃 They don't seem to like the medium at all, or at least not nearly as much as they love hating women.
