Below is a purely hypothetical conversation, presented here merely as an illustration of a point.

    Person A: Makes an assertion.
Me: Oh. What evidence do you have to back that up?
A: It's not my job to educate you.
Myself: Well, if you're not going to present any evidence for your claim, I'm just going to ignore it.
A: ... !! ... But! You need to Listen to [insert demographic] voices!!
    I: No I don't.

"It's not my job to educate you" is not an argument.
If someone refuses to present arguments for their claims, they have only themselves to blame, if people ignore the said claims.

@Gnomeshatecheese What they have very cleverly done is to frame the act of asking questions or asking for evidence as an act of hate or a gotcha.
If they feel sad or angry that nobody believes their assertion, they can call for the person who won't do as they're told to be cancelled.
      Simples.
It's worked for them for a while now.

@KeepTakingTheSoma Or if they don't know how to explain themselves or to back up their claims, but just believe themselves to be correct, they can just say "not my job", and feel extra-righteous.

      @MandyJane @Gnomeshatecheese Exactly. It's an excuse.
If you understand your argument, then it's no problem to explain it.
If you're unsure of your argument, then explaining it to someone will either secure your position or help you to confront any weaknesses in it.
It's being open to a good faith debate with the possibility to have your mind changed by new information or perspective.
I, for example, am open to the idea that men can become women if presented with evidence that it has happened and can happen. Nothing has been forthcoming in this department as yet, but there has been a lot of *men can change sex to be women if we change the definition of the words "men" "women" and "sex"* which is not compelling evidence. Telling me that they're tired of explaining the nonsense doesn't stop it from being nonsense.

@MandyJane @KeepTakingTheSoma A pretty good case in point.
The young woman in the purple jacket is, towards the end of the clip, complaining how the other woman "will not listen" to women like her, when in fact, the other woman is not agreeing.

They equate "listening" with "agreeing", and lack of agreement as an attack.

@Gnomeshatecheese @KeepTakingTheSoma One of the most important stages in life is finding out that you don't know shit. It feels very uncomfortable, at first. I think these young people are being robbed of this experience. They are treated as delicate children way beyond the age they should grow up.

@MandyJane @Gnomeshatecheese I do feel sorry for some of them, but like the children in the Salem witch trials, they have been handed the keys to heaven and adults who should know better are encouraging them. Maybe if they turn on these adults (as happened at Salem) this will eventually peter out, but it's come at a cost.

@MandyJane @KeepTakingTheSoma That is so very true. I remember being a teenager and thinking that everything was so obvious. Then I went to uni, and some time around the second year it slowly dawned on me how incredibly much knowledge there was out there, that I didn't even know existed.
At some point in my 30s I realised that an online acquintance was exhibiting exactly the same kind of ways of thinking I had as a teenager, and she was I think in her late 20s or early 30s. It was an odd realisation, and kind of made me feel like I had come full circle in a way.

@Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane One of the things I loved about college was the library. It was pre-internet and there were thousands of books that opened my mind to new ideas. I couldn't stop reading around subjects as links, references etc opened up. One article would lead to a book, whose author led me to another author and so on.
I was often asked by other students in my year why I had read something not on the reading list if I didn't have to.
That was a teacher training college in the 1980s.

@MandyJane @Gnomeshatecheese Take heart. Most grow out of it.
She's probably like that because she's still young and hasn't met any serious resistance. I was lucky, because my parents, but especially my dad, made me justify everything I thought and made me explore it with some intellectual rigour. It was never personal, it was about the idea not the ownership, so my ideas were not my identity. It made me question everything.
For example, as a young teen I read in the local paper about a man who had been fined for taking in hundreds of stray dogs. My first (emotional) thought was that this was unjust and how could anyone think that taking in strays was a crime. He made me read the article more thoroughly, think about what living next door might be like, what problems taking in so many dogs might entail, as well as considering press bias etc.
Being able to put things into context and consider the whole, without being dragged into an easy emotional response is often very helpful, but not always easy in our tribal times. It's not to say that emotions and instincts aren't helpful (they are) but they're not the whole picture.

@Gnomeshatecheese @KeepTakingTheSoma @MandyJane I would love to have access to a decent library. Some of the ones around the world are incredibly beautiful too. The one in the school at home, it is a community school, had a pretty good one, although these days who knows with the arse of a headmaster there now. The thing here though is pathetic in the extreme.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @MandyJane My department's own library had a section where all the periodicals were laid out. I remember standing there, browsing them, leafing them, looking at the atricles and just having my mind blown by the depth and variety of knowledge it was possible to encounter. Especially knowing that this was just the tiny library of one single department in one university, in one country.

      It was a profound experience.

@HebrideanHecate @Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane Public libraries were one of the Victorian philanthropic social reform ventures, in their case to promote literacy for all and to remove wealth barriers to education, that we're now supposed to call *colonial* or *white supremacy* or whatever. We may sneer now at Victorians (and we may have some good reasons to) but we're now in a *baby out with the bathwater* mentality that cannot see good where it exists or existed. I remember teaching about Victorians to KS3, and the other teacher told her class that Victorians made children go up chimneys and wanted slaves. I had to explain to her that Victorians were the people who tried to change that culture, not perpetuate it.
I went to a primary school in which the houses were all social reformers (Shaftsbury, Barnardo, Fry and Keller) and the headmaster wanted us to know that the actions of an individual could make real change in a world. Lord knows what he'd be thought of now.
Libraries now seem to be less about promoting literacy and more about promoting adherence to the *current thing* and the problem with the *current thing* is that who knows what it will be tomorrow.

@Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane @KeepTakingTheSoma Holy crap, Purple Puffa is off her head. Sadly she seems to have no way of knowing that.

I found it horrible and even frightening to watch this young obviously wealthy (a jacket like that would cost almost $1000CAD, £525, more than half a month's salary for a full-time minimum wage), completely oblivious to her own privilege.

It's one thing to think you know everything when a youth but to argue about it in this manner shows she's experiencing more than just a young woman's ego.

She's got a horrible sinister tone (to me) that signals she's ready to DO ACTUAL VIOLENCE to anyone who doesn't share her nonsense exactly.

AND WHAT IS SHE FIGHTING FOR!?!? Sickening funny, she's fighting for violent disordered men that will always a 1000x times more privilege that she does even if she manages to graduate.

She's more of a Kali than even the most devoted protective mother. And she doesn't care if her bullshit is convincing or not.

It's a struggle watching that first clip and now I'm struggling to watch the rest. It's like a horror show without the blood, so far.

@LaylaAlexandrovna @Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane The violence aspect is interesting.
In her world, words she doesn't like are violence, but a physically violent response to such words is not violence, it is self-defence so nobody will have to suffer the violence.
Words have meanings. These people use the same words as us, but they use different dictionaries. This is how they *win* the game of *logic*.
She thinks that by transcending the workaday world by using the approved terminology from academe she is much better educated than the rest of us. We should bow to her knowledge and get in line for our own good.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @MandyJane Yep. Sooner or later she'll run into people who won't put up with her shit. And then she's in trouble.

@LaylaAlexandrovna @MandyJane @KeepTakingTheSoma I agree it was disconcerting to watch her. I got distinct vibes of a religious nutter screaming at an unbeliever or a sinner. Same kind of set gaze and stringent voice tones, and the weird stone-faced expression.

@Gnomeshatecheese @LaylaAlexandrovna @MandyJane They walk among us. But it's the price we pay to live in society. I'm very happy for her to exist and to think as she does. I'd like her to pay me the same curtesy.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @LaylaAlexandrovna @MandyJane I was interested in how she countered the other woman's statement that the study she cited was disputed. She either used the word "deny" or "reject" about it (not watching it again to check), without at all engaging with what the other woman had said.

She's not having a discussion. She wants to tell the other woman she's a bad person with ideas that should be rejected.

@Gnomeshatecheese @LaylaAlexandrovna @MandyJane Indeed. If there is such a study that shows that brains can change according to sex etc, it is a study we could all do with reading. Science is about being able to falsify information. If something can't be challenged, it isn't science, it's faith.
It just goes to show that the enlightenment and freedom are not things we can take for granted.

@Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane @KeepTakingTheSoma I remember starting to see this amongst the younger anti-pipeline activists 10+ years ago who I saw standing on a mountain the pipelines already pierced, screaming directly into the policemen's faces, noses almost touching. Some of those women went full on woke around this same time. I just didn't realise what was going on as they were at least 30+ yrs younger than me! One ended up almost doxxing me just 3-4 yrs later! (chez Morgane Oger)

I thought it was possibly the least effective form of protest ever. Now it seems like so many protests have devolved to just screaming in someone's face without logic or reason.

      Not the TERF protesters though!

      @LaylaAlexandrovna @Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane It's toddler logic - If I scream enough, I get what I want.
We get more of the behaviour we reward.
I often think that these are just overgrown toddlers.

      @KeepTakingTheSoma @Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane That's very true.

I found something that isn't toddlerism (and something I referred to in my previous post!) when I found this guy's video on a strange sound that people all over the world were hearing - to their detriment, and which thoroughly supports the reasons we didn't want Canada filled with massive amounts of [I'll let you guess or watch this video!) like there are everywhere else. https://youtu.be/zy_ctHNLan8

My sis lives near one of these but I don't think I do. This could be one of the reasons for so many people having sicknesses these days. I do live near a 5G tower which I'm not yet sure if this guy checked for.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane Actually the other main thing about this video that strikes me is that so many many people of both sexes are cooperating to find out what the sources of the sounds are and how to alleviate them, even though there's no money in it.

It's kind of analogous to the gender madness theory, however no one is actually doing anything to really locate and fix the problem.

Both industries are massively hampered by the secrecy around them and the fact that so much money is to be made by perpetuating them.
