@GrumpyOldNurse @Flick @Gnomeshatecheese @HebrideanHecate oh PFI and PPI was well popular here under Labour. Ask a private company to build a school, or a car park for a hospital, for free. Look we built stuff! and then pay through the nose to said private company for the next 30 years to use the bloody thing. Some of which got sold on to private equity companies who raised the repayments.

@FeartnTired @Flick @Gnomeshatecheese @HebrideanHecate Well, robber barons have traditionally held the best interests of the general public as sacred, of course.

@Flick @FeartnTired @HebrideanHecate That sounds very similar to what the social democrats have been doing in Finland when in power.

Cut here, increase taxes there. Essentially continue the same policies as the rightist governments, just different amounts at different places.

I still find it funny that Labout increases taxes on charities.
Just the way it sounds is like out of a political satire.

@GrumpyOldNurse @Gnomeshatecheese @Flick @HebrideanHecate My original gripe with SNP govt was over reliance on 3rd sector to provide services. Dead against it. If the service is govt funded it should be provided by state agencies NHS, Council etc. Farming it out to charities, and expecting much of the work to be done by volunteers, is just not right. Now even the charities are getting cut. What of those of us who rely on various services. Or are currently denied services and pushed out to private sector to be exploited due to 'budget cuts'.

@FeartnTired @Flick @Gnomeshatecheese @HebrideanHecate In Canada, tptb seem to love triple P (public private partnership) which is just a fancy way of giving graft to their friends. It's impressive that they've taken it one step farther and got it for 'free'.

      Well played, Satan, well played.

@FeartnTired @Gnomeshatecheese @HebrideanHecate No, no change. They currently pay, say, 40p in the pound, now they’ll pay 45p, or whatever.

(No idea what the current figure is, that’s just a guess. My gut says 35p might be closer.)

@HebrideanHecate Well, I definitely didn't have "labour government takes money away from charities" on my bingo card.

Actually, I'm just sitting here thinking the Labour are now fully a real-time political satire.

@HebrideanHecate @Gnomeshatecheese not sure I understand the logic here. The NI increases aren't that huge. so a big chunk of donated money must have been going on NI and tax aleady. Unless what's changed is that charities were exempt before and now aren't?

      Dirty fuckers.

      https://www.gbnews.com/money/tax-scrooge-reeves-national-insurance-charity

Rachel Reeves has been likened to "Ebenezer Scrooge" from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol as it emerged her Budget tax grab will mean nearly half of every pound donated to charity will effectively go to the Government.

The Chancellor's National Insurance changes mean that 45 pence in every pound given to charitable causes will be handed over to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) next year.

This revelation has sparked outrage among charity leaders and politicians, who warn the tax raid threatens vital services across the voluntary sector amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Sarah Elliott, head of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, warned that many charities are now facing "devastating decisions" between managing overstretched budgets and providing essential services.

The tax changes are set to take effect from April 2025, with charity bosses warning staff layoffs and cutting crucial support programmes are being considered to mitigate the cost.
