@mkwadee sure, they must be fairly paid. not sure if the infrastructure could handle this much extra - it is already struggling in places

@glynmoody This has been talked about before but Morocco must not be exploited. They need to be paid equitably. Also, I think it would be better to send it to mainland Europe via Spain or Italy and then over to the UK as much of the infrastructure is in place.

@glynmoody Africa could make good use of that power. We could max out our solar and wind first.

@glynmoody Or the UK could get their energy from the EU‘s grid (while Morocco feeds it into the EU on the southern end)? Brexit can’t be the obstacle, can it?

@NotBob that would be easier, but not sure the current distribution networks could handle it - they are already creaking

Not sure I get that one.
Checks Nautical Miles to Kilometers. 1.85km. OK Morocco to England is...
http://ports.com/sea-route/port-of-tanger,morocco/port-of-london,united-kingdom/
1536km so with a bit of a bend that might hit 4000km.
But...

Given the Isthmus would it not be easier to route things over the Spanish and French Grid into the UK and share the electricity/costs of the project or is that another Brexit benefit?
"They include the French energy giant TotalEnergies..." etc

@cybeardjm in what sense? it uses resources, yes, but it replaces gas-generation with solar: that's better, no? meanwhile, morocco earns money from its sunshine...
