    Woman's £1,906 bill over five-minute parking rule

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c2k0qlpjgk2o

    If you are 5 minutes late paying, they charge you 100 pounds, even though the charge for the whole day is just 3.30 pounds.

    Isn't #Capitalism wonderful?

      @alextecplayz

      Unrestrained capitalism leads to ever-increasing inequality, which in turn allows the rich and super-rich to control the laws. So, yes, capitalism.

      Making the elite afraid again with the threat of communism isn't a solution. They'll throw some scraps to the working class in the form of tax reforms and social programs, and the moment the workers are calmed down, they'll go right back to exploiting and mistreating us as before. We don't need to threaten them with a communist revolution to get them to act better. We need to initiate a communist revolution and get rid of them for good.

      In fact, all the growth over the last 40 years in the USA has gone to the top 10%, 1% and 0.1%. There has been no growth for those on median incomes, and negative growth for those below.

      Those in authority after the war were afraid of "communism", so treated the working class better. Maybe we need to make the élite afraid again to get justice.

      The post-war consensus relied on a tenuous class compromise. It was fundamentally unstable because it was conditional on endless growth, a condition that is unable to be maintained. It lasted roughly half a century. That's not a long period of time.

      @mrpieceofwork

      The postwar consensus (deficit spending; high taxes on the rich and companies; council housing; welfare; the mixed economy) produced steadily rising living standards, high growth rates, low unemployment, much reduced inequality.

      #Neoliberalism, by contrast, produced steadily worsening #inequality, lower growth, higher unemployment, unaffordable housing, and worsening political division.
