Pokeboomer = Someone who has lots of nostalgia for the first or first few generation(s), hates the new ones, or simply doesn't care.
Pokecoomer = Buys up every new Pokemon game, because it's Pokemon.
Pokedoomer = Rejects the new games because the new games just suck.
Pokegloomer = Predicts the end of Pokemon because the new games are the worst so far.
Pokezoomer = First time into Pokemon.
Pokeautist = Prefers the previous generation over the new one every single time (ex: when the 6th generation gets announced, they prefer the 5th, when the 5th gets announced, they prefer the 4th, when the 4th gets announced, they prefer the 3th etc etc).
@ryo@elftummy Yeah I really liked the mountainous environment for Sinnoh, it felt much more adventurous than others. Assuming Hokkaido is similar as well. (I know nothing about Japanese reigons)
@elftummy@Ace66062@ryo I've got runs of pokeboomer and pokecoomer. Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum have been my favorites but I've bought and played most generations.
@ryo Almost any time there is a sequel in some beloved franchise, there are always a crowd who insist that the new version is ruined and that the prior version is the only real, pure, ordained game, bestowed upon them by the lady of the lake. I saw it happen with Starcraft, Super Smash Bros, and quite a few other games.
@ryo Pokecoomer should have been pokeconsoomer. Actual pokecoomers only care about R34 of the girls (maybe some of the pokemon too). I happen to consider that the only reason to still be into pokemon other than fan games and maybe the old games a bit.
Though honestly, they were never very good games. People do so many challenge runs for a reason, and that reason is that the actual game design is so shit that you have to invent your own challenges for the games to even be worth playing. Still, Gen 1 is the best generation, because it's the most broken, because of all the glitches. Even more so in Japanese Red and Green, though the western releases have a few original glitches somehow.
Anyway, the franchise is so fucked that I have seen at least a couple big competitive players say that they don't know anything about the current generation. I think we may end up with a Super Smash Bros. Melee type of situation, with competitive players playing old games forever because the new ones aren't good enough. I wonder which generation most of them would pick. Which is the best generation competitively, for most players? It would definitely not be Gen 5. Pretty sure that's a gigantic train wreck to this day.
To me, Pokemon is almost two franchises. Classic Pokemon is Gen 1 and 2. Gen 3 is a good generation, but it was a massive shift in tone and even in gameplay, though not really in quality. Gen 6 was the first sign of decline, Gen 7 was a progression of that, and Gen 8 was the "it's fucking over" generation. As soon as DLC became a thing in Pokemon, I thought "this franchise is fucking dead" (based take on this subject: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=3I1f2J1JS3E ).
@TerminalAutism Well, I liked the whole mega shinka concept of Gen 6, most of the designs were pretty cool and all that. The Z-waza thing from Gen 7 seemed more like a gimick, and Gen 8's daimax and kyodaimax (so daimax with form changes) were rather tiring. Especially considering the special treatment Lizardon and Gengar were getting, they both got both a mega shinka and kyodaimax form. Hell, Lizardon even got 2 mega shinka forms.
But personally I liked Gen 2 the most, the music had a typical 1990's vibe to it, even more so than Gen 1 I think.
@TerminalAutism Before you point out that Fushigibana and Kamex had both forms, I know, but both got them much later on, whereas Lizardon get these forms at launch each time.
@ryo The megas were cool, I liked them. I think Gen 6 was pretty fun, competitively. And I'm a big fan of Gen 2 music too. More so than the music on the remakes. Remake music in the Pokemon games was almost never as good as the original. To me it seems like they try to make the music sound like the other games in the generation, but it generally doesn't suit the soundtrack.
