I'd recommend KDE as a good default choice but I've barely used it myself. -

At least for games it should work nicely, even for stuff like VR (in fact XOrg is kind of wonky in this area). -

(Or splitting the thing between different X servers but last time any app supported being moved across X servers was like 2 decades ago and it was very crash prone) -
