     @realhackhistory@chaos.social I am very sure that the .mkv file that I play using MPV is not spying on me.
     
     However the proprietary Netflix app that requires users to enable DRM and install Google Play services definitely spies on its users tho.

     @realhackhistory And kind of feel like their ad only works if it's not stealing if it's legal.
     (And almost no one reads privacy policies, in fact I'd say the ones who do like me, don't use most commercial services)

     Quite unlikely to not get immediately patched. The chances of these existing in proprietary video players with DRM is indeed much higher.

     @SuperDicq @realhackhistory Eh, it is possible for decoders to have exploitable vulnerabilities.
     
     That is an argument for software decoding in VMs or other high-isolation environments.
     
     It is certainly not an argument in favor of proprietary malware like DRM.
