     Specially as when you actually follow the money on "commuters need to wear helmets!", it's car industries.

     Commuter bikes go at ~15 mph, literally half, 30 mph is small scooters and some e-mopeds.

     @vriska @mametsuko Except it's a risk that has a probability of occurring so low it's not worth it. Also I'm not saying you *personally* shouldn't wear a helmet, heck I'd even typically recommend wearing one.
     
     But helmets for commuters is kind of like saying people should wear safety shoes at all times instead of at precise at risk situations where we know they do actively help, and that one for bicycles is sports, not city where there's well maintained bicycle paths (so no potholes).

     @vriska @mametsuko And the maintained path is important, like even for cars pretty much everyone would wear a helmet when going offroad or on a seriously bad road (or at really high speeds).

     @vriska @lanodan @mametsuko and the average commuter doesn't go 30km/h as well. Thats sports bikers. The commute in NL works rather with 12-15 km/h.

     There are many head injuries in car crashes - where are the folks requesting crash helmets in cars? It will save lives!

     Is it to do with a lack of such?
     
     I wear a bike helmet, as it's useful to not have to worry about protecting my head when I'm flying through the air at 40km/hr and instead can focus on executing the perfect landing.

     I keep saying we need another lane! Just one more bike lane bro. The traffic light also prioritizes these freaking busses that run every other minute like they're always packed or smth. At least the light stays green longer when its this busy.

     Helmets prevent brain injury (fun fact, the Netherlands has very high rates of brain damage, accredited mostly to the high number of cyclists)
     
     Helmets also save lives
     
     You see people trip on the side walk and hit their head, and they get fucking domed. Imagine if instead of 4kmph, they were doing 35...

     @vriska @lanodan @mametsuko also helmet mandates cost more lives than they save on a statistical basis because they depress ridership and hence mean less people getting regular excercise from engaging in active travel
