iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 03:15:59 JST iced depresso @shibao i use grocy on and off. its a penance to use though. and the meal planner is nice but iffy (like if you put oatmeal in for seven days in a week it only understands that to be 'one oatmeal' if you ask it to build the shopping list0 -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 03:53:11 JST iced depresso @mr64bit @shibao it really works better for dry storage where things sit for a long time and you forget about them and they go bad.
for frequently tumbling storage (the fridge) its absolutely tedious. the developer of grocy has a dedicated laptop bolted to his fridge to barcode scan with. -

mr64bit (mr64bit@p.mr64.net)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 04:15:05 JST mr64bit @icedquinn @shibao the more frequent tedious stuff is where i should take advantage of it the most though, cause I'm just awful at remembering that half-used container of sour cream or something in the fridge and not using the rest of it before it spoils. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 04:18:35 JST iced depresso @mr64bit @shibao if you put the barcodes in to grocy you can scan them in. the level of detail can be a matter of opinion though. like scanning individual flavors of bai or water vs. just tracking it all as seltzer water.
you can have a barcode do an inventory split but only a basic one. so scan the box and tell it to stock 6 bottles of tea.
you can choose whether to auto-fill and wait for you to confirm, or auto-fill and confirm if all the fields have defaults, so if you are not bothered by the exact expiration dates you can just say "cocoa powder is twelve months from now generally" and it will happily blip as fast as the reader sends. works for checking goods out too, you can barcode scan in consume.
there's a "grocycode" thing where it will turn the database id in to a qr code for you, so you can print a sheet of barcodes for goods that don't have them (like farmers market goods) and just blip a fridge magnet too. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 05:47:33 JST iced depresso @mr64bit @shibao you can but from what i could tell its kind of like petty cash and finance too. you just pick the level of bookkeeping that you will actually do.
its fine to not have a product code for every flavor, and its fine to just scan the whole box in and out. it won't tell you when yogurt is low but if you can't feasibly scan each tub then you can track the boxes :cirno_shrug: -

mr64bit (mr64bit@p.mr64.net)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 05:47:34 JST mr64bit @icedquinn @shibao that's what I really needed to do, take the time to make parent products for everything so I'm not tracking half a dozen different product barcodes for 'yogurt' or 'milk'. tracking item counts by 'pack' vs 'piece' was the other really annoying thing. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 05:48:11 JST iced depresso @mr64bit @shibao forum reading seems to say unless you specifically care about the product type, just add each barcode to a generic milk.
recipes seem to have silly interaction with product groups, idk -
