Why I can't sleep.🤦♂️

@manu I feel like that's most ADHD meds, but if I don't take it, no sleep is had for several days.😬
@BeAware
I've learned that Vyvanse/Elvanse has this effect on more than one person. Always after taking it for the first day in a row. I know it well. Subsequent days are better.
@FandaSin lmao!
Side story:
One day a few years ago, I was in the car with a friend that likes fast cars and we were stopped at a red light and noticed a truck next to us rev his engine so we did a little impromptu street race from the light.
When we made it to the next red light, we rolled down our windows to say "good race" to the guy, and he was jamming to crab rave.🤣🤣🤣
I can hear that GIF! 🤦 😂
@manu always free to infodump with me.
I may not have a good way to respond and just favorite your comment, but you're always free to do it.🤷♂️
@BeAware
Argh that is terrible :(
Let me know if you want my infodump on how I deal with it. Don't want to bother you with unsolicited advice :blobpeek:
@manu These are good tips and advice. Thank you for sharing them. I'll save these posts and keep them in mind whenever I have such troubles again.
Sorry I didn't reply right away, I actually fell asleep not long after you posted them.😅
@BeAware
Oh and the one rule to rule them all: No rules.
Someone somewhere once wrote an angry post about ADHD and described something they called scorched earth effect (or similar) in regard to self-organizing methods. Once one currently functional method fails and everything crumbles, it just can't be reinstated.
I feel the same about sleep-tricks. When they lose their effect, I drop them and trust I'll find something else.

Aaaand: While counting sheep sucks for me, imagining tiles that count in binary does wonders for me. Getting past 127 is very uncomfortable but that's often when I doze off anyway.
Sometimes realizing that brings me right back but then I can count again :) Also, counting backwards from 100 or 1000 (in decimal) calms me down.
When all this fails it's still lights on and Steam Deck on the countryside time, though.
It's also very justified to call in a sick day when brain won't sleep.
@BeAware
These days, I have someone I trust sleeping next to me, which makes it much easier to stay in bed and remaining calm (don't want to wake them up). Only when my brain starts a real party (like your crabs), I get up. Usually there is some hyperfocus going on then.
But I was told that lying down with your eyes closed has a very similar effect to sleeping, knowing which alleviated the pressure to sleep for me a bit.
@BeAware
Ok, don't know if that helps you but maybe there's something in it for you :)
I used to suffer from this immensely for years, now it's become less frequent for unknown reasons (may be related to meds as well).
One thing that helped me very early on was acknowledging the end of my sleep and getting up, turning on lights and doing something nice. Apparently sleep is a bit like a countryside bus that passes every 90 minutes or so and when I miss it, I might as well enjoy the view.
