aZa (aza1905@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 31-Aug-2024 20:33:49 JST aZa @kaia my brother just bought a laser engraver, his was not that expensive. Like 200 bucks for a 10w laser. How much were the ones you were looking for?

kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Saturday, 31-Aug-2024 20:34:48 JST kaia @aZa1905 that particular one is 260, but I have not done any research whether it's the best/cheapest. it was recommended as good on r*ddit. -

miauz genyau (mia@movsw.0x0.st)'s status on Saturday, 31-Aug-2024 20:39:07 JST miauz genyau @kaia @tk i want to build an open source CNC router for that instead of modifying one of my printers. can be upgraded to a plotter/cutter or a pick n place machine
DIY laser stuff is not without hazards either. e.g. you do need filters for the correct wavelength or the scattered light might still blind youkaia likes this. -

This looks like a very modern gadget.
The ones i know from research, get controller by a computer over USB. You put in an image and press Start so the laser does its thing.
I think bluetooth/wifi just makes these things crazy expensive. This is the one my brother bought and it works quite nice: https://de.acmerlaser.com/products/acmer-p1-10w-lasergravurmaschine
