Mistral's docs recommend vLLM, but I've made more than a few botched installs of vLLM, over the past few days. I'm going to maybe use ollama instead, since lots of people on tech fedi have been bragging about how fun it is.

Welp. I tried to get vLLM installed and I couldn't. I got ollama installed on a cheap VPS and it was practically unusable. Practically the smallest LLM you will find will take four minutes to put one word to the console, if you're not using a GPU.

I guess I'll be using cloud-based LLMs for the time being.

"Jesus made the stars and sunshine" does play a role in religion, but that isn't what gets people saved.

      Saved from what?

People have an internalized sense of guilt and regret when they're down on their luck, I think.

      Yes.

Actual Christianity means "you live for Christ, you die for Christ, all for no tangible benefit whatsoever."

Is that what evangelists are preaching? Is that what fills the pews?

True preachers of the faith could not care less if pews and coffers are filled. I'm not being paid to evangelize to you now even. You can have church anywhere, for free. This doesn't mean there aren't grifters. There are. But that doesn't represent Christian teachings.

People get paid to solve problems right? And every pastor is intimately familiar with the problems afflicting their congregation. Health problems. Money issues. Their childrearing issues, their mental health issues and relationship problems.

But what can they actually do about it?

"Oh well, god loves you anyway". Cope and prayer.

I need to be taking a fedi vacay until Sept.

There's some projects I need to finish with AI chats, there's some shit I wanna learn with crypto and markets, but I need to get some shit done IRL as well. Most importantly, I need to do something about my health. I haven't been eating solid food most days, just protein shakes. The caffeine I take for focus and attention (among other issues) messes up my appetite.

I'm going to take my misskey offline in a few days, since I'm not likely to receive any replies or notifications for my existing posts, after that. I'll turn it back on and check in September.

Thanks for the info and engagement.

#server #migration - I did the migration I wanted, a while back, but my site is much slower than before. 😩

I have my #webserver running on a $5 box, and I have the #database running inside a #docker on a $10 box. But the datacenter has the $5 and $10 boxes on separate subnets, so there is more lag for every single database query.

I'm going to do another #server #migration, and put my dockers on a $5 box. That means my dockers will be a bit less performant next time I see the need to spin up more dockers, for this-or-that experimental project. But at least my #misskey will be closer to the #database, and #S4S will be more performant. Plus I save $5 each month.

@KuteboiCoder Do you keep the results of queries that will run frequently or are slow in memory close to where they are consumed.

If your non-db server has a UI, have you tried do optimistic fetching on things like link hover and ensuring minimal columns are being served?

      no fucking clue.

I'm using misskey, outta the box. It's got almost no English-language documentation. Takes a little bit of brainpower (and practice) just to run the bash installer.

#Misskey is a #Node #Typescript application, running on port 3000, and uses #postgresql and #redis for data backend. I'm assuming that the redis does fast cacheing of some sort, not sure what all is there. Also has #nginx set up as a #reverseproxy on port 80, even though the the documentation tells us to expose port 3000 to the world.

That's what I did. I'm assuming that most federation would still work even with port 3000 closed, but it's not worth taking the chance.

The entire application is very fast running and very snazzy looking when it's running all on one box with a good deal of hardware available.

I know that misskey works, and it's a good program, but I want it to be slightly budget-optimized and somewhat containerized so that I can tinker with other containerized applications with the #VPS I already have running.
