@fkamiah17 go. Oban, ferry to Mull, up through Mull, ferry to Ardnamurchan, round the coast to Mallaig, ferry to Skye, bridge off Skye to wherever you like.
@CloudyMrs Aye, I've been to Skye and Mull. We're concentrating on the east side this time because we're coming up from York. There's so much of Scotland (and Ireland and Wales) to see.
@fkamiah17 what do you like? I do all the outdoorsy stuff and know the bit between John o Groats and Stonehaven pretty well for walking, camping, cycling or getting in the sea.
@CloudyMrs Yes, definitely! Suggestions welcome. I was briefly in the NE last summer on my way back to Edinburgh from Orkney but didn't get much chance to see anything.
@fkamiah17 Standing stones aplenty in Aberdeenshire. https://www.visitabdn.com/what-to-do/touring/routes-and-trails/stone-circles-trail/ No shortage of castles either. On the beaten track, castles are Slains and Old Slains, Dunnottar and Fyvie. Off the beaten track favourites at Gight, (also a great wee walk) and Tolquhuon. You can walk, cycle from Braes o Gight back to Pitmedden, mostly off-road and take in Gight Castle, Haddo House, Tolquhon and Pitmedden Garden on the way. A fair walk, but it has 4 cake stops and a bus back to nearly the start.
@CloudyMrs We'll be doing a fair amount of hiking while we're in Yorkshire but outdoors is fine. We both love a castle and standing stones, all things of that type really. And definitely *not* camping or climbing stuff 😂
@TCMuffin@fkamiah17 I saw them from Aberdeen Beach a couple of weekends ago. Leaping and playing for ages. They hang about the harbour mouth and are really often seen close to shore. I forgot to mention Fittie as a place to visit. Worth a wee wander. https://www.scotsurfschool.com/ is nearby and can sort out a paddleboard or surf session too if that's your thing. The beach sauna and wide variety of food trucks is also pretty good.
@Wen@fkamiah17@ForfarFairLady I take wetsuits and body boards if I'm going to the Moray Coast. Lots of happy days playing at Sandend. You can hire SUP, surfboards, and wetsuits off the beachside surf school, though, if you run out of room.
@fkamiah17@CloudyMrs@ForfarFairLady Wetsuits maybe, depending on the time of year, but you will find a lot of fine swimming both on the coats and in the lochs further inland. The advantage of no wetsuit is that you can walk in further without too much baggage for your swim. Having said that an SUP is a fine toy for the waters.
