   I just want people to admit that Discord works a lot better than the cobbled together barely functioning FOSS alternative but people sincerely say that Discord is shit compared to Mumble which requires more manual configuration and works worse for audio level and noise suppression, you can't paste a picture that is bigger than like 4Kb, can't paste animated or video, and has had a bug for years and years where anyone pasting an image causes chat to scroll back multiple pages

     Are you referring to proprietary software has happens to be functionally worse?
     
     The original and the best was irc.
     
     
     Mumble predates discord by a decade.
     
     Mumble needs to be configured just one time? Boo hoo.
     
     Mumble is designed for voice chat primarily and does a very good job at that.
     
     
     You appear to be complaining about a bug that has been fixed, which is ridiculous, considering that many bugs in proprietary software never get fixed - if it hasn't been fixed, the source code is right there awaiting a patch from you.

     I'll concede on most points but RNNoise in Mumble is way better than whatever garbage Discord is using.

     @sun I think for me the only true alternative on the VC+light-chat side of things is Jitsi Meet, that said I barely ever do VCs.
     
     And like at some point you have to be honest, for most of foss folks, ability to self-host or other forms of owning technology matters a lot, while others would rather just rent/freeload around.
