It's also worth noting that this concept of some future antichrist was popularized as a direct countermeasure to the reformation by a Jesuit by the name of Ribera at around 1600. He made it up to protect the papacy from being accused by the reformers (and rightly so) of being the man of perdition.
I have seen others comment that the idea of a future antichrist existed before this time BUT I have not read those sources and regardless it was not widely accepted in the early church, not even by Catholicism. It was not until Ribera that it was accepted by Catholicism and then later Protestants. It took a few hundred years for it to finally be accepted by protestants and I personally lay a lot of blame for that on Scofield's shoulders.

@Omega_Variant @PodunkPotato @Aly @BarelyEagle @SuperLutheran and @Crux_Invictus did a comparative discussion on The Godcast recently regarding amillenialism, premillenialism, and postmillennialism. This is the first I've heard of the 42 months thing.

@PodunkPotato @BarelyEagle In revelations 13
The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months
From his inauguration day until he dropped out of the race forty two months had gone by

Without going into a needlessly long post those prophecies have to do with pagan rome and the Roman Catholic church.
The dragon (which was a common symbol of Rome) was wounded upon pagan romes death and was "healed" with the rise of the Roman Catholic church which assumed all the powers of the former pagan empire.
The 42 months are not a literally 42 months. In the book of Daniel God gives him "a day for a year". That would 1260 days or 1260 years. The roman Catholic Church ruled and reign for 1260 years before Napoleon (also mentioned in revelation) put a stop to it. During this 1260 years it persecuted the saints by killing those who disagreed with it and spoke blasphemies including stuff like the Pope claiming to be all but equal to God.
Revelation and Daniel are sister books and they are all fulfilled aside from the 7th vial being poured which is where we will see the Babylonian system we are in come to an end. Financially, religiously, politically. Etc.

@BarelyEagle What am I supposed to take from this?

Yes what I say is not a wide lick accepted view currently.
However I don't know how people go from a day for a year in Daniel to literally 42 months in Revelation.
The two books are sister books. That part of Daniel could be considered revelation lite. I don't see why it would change.

@Omega_Variant @PodunkPotato @Aly @BarelyEagle I wonder if people overemphasize that connection, no disrespect meant. I was once a very gung ho premillennialist, and it seems popular in that space.

I don't think so. If it changes from one book to another then we have huge issues.
I find it very hard to believe that God would randomly take the 70th week and throw it off into some nebulous future date while letting all other 69 weeks come to pass in their course consecutively.
I'm not sure what you would describe me as. I am a "we are here for it all" person. No rapture.
