remember again for many progs words are associated as feelings and nothing else, this is why they can constantly use them in inconsistent ways.
The hot take is that this is neither good nor bad, but just how some people are and it's best to just plan accordingly.

this is also why I beg people not to try and explain to progressives why using "fascism" in a even self-inconsistent way doesn't make sense. For them it's just a "bad think-thing" word. If needed to, they will find a rationalization to link things together afterwards.

notice he feels betrayed about "transparency" - if a body camera records an entire interaction without cuts, is that not transparency?
We know people often leave out pieces of stories that they don't like.

@sickburnbro it's because it's offends his views on race. Any confirmation to reality contrary to his brainwashing is "evil".
Love me some bodycam footage, it's fucking kino at times and great like this one. Uncle just got ventilated moments after nearly killing a police officer and possibly killing or injuring you? Clearly a sailfoam should be your priority

@SpurgAnon it's more than just that, it's also a confirmation of "yeah, a lot of poor people are poor because they keep making bad decisions"

@doctorsex words are magic though, this is what stories are; this is what communication is about. Real science and engineering are about trying to nail things down to increase reproducibility, but this comes at a cost.

There's no point in trying to have an actual discussion with people who believe words are magic. The words themselves no longer serve their primary purpose as words (to directly describe something) but instead begin to serve a secondary or tertiary role- as euphemisms, as veiled language which, intentionally or unintentionally obfuscates. Someone who thinks like this inherently speaks in lies.

@doctorsex thus words can have different meanings within different scientific contexts, and that's fine. The only way around this would be to make a giant registry where every word had to be defined and .. well, I guess the french kind of do this.
But if you look at how languages evolve by becoming less regular over time, it's like trying to fight the elements; it is a never ending battle, so you must choose your actions carefully.

@doctorsex I get where you are coming from. What I'm saying is that a lot of communication is done in the form or context of stories.
Think about law for example - if you want to overrule a law you must come forth with a relevant experience which invalidates it; but what the lawyers are arguing over is what is the proper STORY

Words *can* be magic and in the context of stories, they *should* be. The inherent duplicity of veiled speech is actually counterproductive to any kind of actual communication. Obviously in the context of this discussion, we're talking about this view within the realm of political discourse. Naturally, lies and deception are going to show up as a part of that. But should we just be okay would that? Or should we aim higher?

I understand that, I've done my requisite reading on constitutional law. The difference there is that the story told by lawyers must be true, or at least sufficiently provable as truth. Unless you're talking about congress or something like that, where I would say it's probably more like "here's where we want to be, what kind of bullshit can we throw out there to justify it?" And if it's that, then I don't disagree with you that that is the "is" side of the "is-ought" here. I'm expressing my disgust at that; I'm saying I would like things to be different from that.

I tell best story.

@doctorsex it's a rather succinct example of a magic word being used to anchor a story.

What about them

@sickburnbro @doctorsex I would agree there is a natural *drift* in a language but what the left does isn't that. It is wrenching words out of their proper use and ultimately draining them of meaning.

@sickburnbro @doctorsex Funko Pop Americans have made things so bad, though. If "scholar" means "deadly fent groid" every time I hear it, tempus sit relinquere navem

@SpurgAnon @sickburnbro I've seen those, also. My point is the vast majority of folks who "do the right thing" economically - no partying and spending on stuff they don't need - but live hand-to-mouth due to low pay / inflation.
Many looked at salaries BEFORE selecting a career - blue collar AND white collar - but were SCREWED by factors they could not control - policies set by Traitors.
Struggle and eat beans and rice to save up some money - car part for the old beater is needed - broke again. That's reality for millions, right now. Many lose it, and become alcoholics / drug-addicts out of desperation. Note how the fenatyl deaths follow the outsourcing in those wrecked communities.
This is why I HATE the "entitlement reform" GOP - which spreads this idea that everyone who is poor "deserves it." NO - that's Lolbetarian BS. Uniparty Trade and Immigration Policies WRECKED MILLIONS OF LIVES and families who were doing Just Fine, before. Fix those FIRST, and THEN we can deal with the actual bums/idiots.
Same for whining about student loan forgiveness. Kick out all the Treason-Visa "will work cheeeper" 3rd Worlders, and THEN talk about "responsibility." The pawns are not "responsible" for any of this.

@sickburnbro @SpurgAnon That used to be true in the USA. But, now, most people who are poor, are poor, because they have been screwed by forces outside of their control - immigration, outsourcing, CRT/DEI, inflation, etc.
