     I do not understand why manufacturers feel the need to make inline 4 cylinders anymore, especially with "sport" or utility vehicles. Or even trucks now! Light duty trucks can come in I-4s and it doesn't make sense. It's a car with a bed at that point.

     @matty @Shini_Koroshi Real answer is you can carry 2-4 people in it and fill the bed with their tools. No real truck ™ is going to be used to get heavy gravel and shit. Even a 1 ton will probably max out on weight. GDI + turbo means more horses than a V6 or small V8 with a a 4 cylinder.

Aluminum doesn't have the magical critical point durability of steel so it will take death by a thousand cuts when you run it at higher revs.

     "one ton", "quarter ton" etc don't really mean anything about the load it will carry. It's more a category than a load spec.
     Originally it referred to the amount of hay (small bales) you could stack on a flat bed. A quarter ton truck was built to carry 12-16 bales, a one-ton was rated to carry 48-60. In the 30s that was a big load, requiring big wheels, heavy duty running gear, and a powerful engine. So now the biggest, most powerful light truck is a one-ton. But a one-ton truck can easily carry 4 tons, and tow 6 or more.

     @RobCaruso @matty @Shini_Koroshi Aren't diesels heavier engines all around? I thought they were steel too because of compression requirements. That should be fine for turbo because sub fatigue limit doesn't damage iron at all. Still have seals and rings and such to worry about but that's an eternal issue.
