so basically some mid level manager in idaho decided he didn't like the values in an excel spreadsheet so now he's going to put an entire rural county out of business

@deprecated_ii Supposedly its because some government oligarchs opened cobalt mine there. Or some other rare element, mining of which require a lot of water. So they both get rid of farmers, because all of them require to take loans, to be able to farm, steal their land, and get rich from the mines.

@Marakus @deprecated_ii I think that's the only cobalt mine in the USA, so that would make sense. I hate our government so much it's unreal.

@Heil_Honkler well if they're not going to sell it on the commodities market and have a buyer in the form of the US government already that can guarantee a price...
sounds like someone finally decided to gear up for world war 3, just in the most asshole way possible

@deprecated_ii For the benefit of a cobalt mine that will not be profitable any time soon. pound of cobalt needs to be at least 20bucks+ and theforecast doesn't look like it will get over 14ish this year.

@BowsacNoodle @deprecated_ii They cant even get extension on loans, because there are no emergency or anything like that. Just "you are not allowed to farm anymore, because I said so". I seen a video on that, recently, someone probably has it.

@deprecated_ii @Marakus It's green grift BS mostly I reckon. From a national security aspect, we need cobalt in general, and to keep the electric vehicle meme going we'll need a secure supply if and when we lose international sources.

@BowsacNoodle @Marakus gee, maybe we should've kept developing rare earth mining over the last 50 years instead of having to rush ahead with some dipshit low efficiency plan at the last second
we know where a bunch of the shit is and there are mining methods that have low environmental impact. but you can't just develop an efficient mine overnight, it takes 5-10 years

@BowsacNoodle @deprecated_ii Look around, I seen it few days ago. It might as well be in another universe, unless some anon posts it again.
