   @Elliptica @flux_the_cat Wouldnt it be safer and simpler to hire a mathematician on every research team, to check their data? In my opinion only some engineers and physicists can do math. ZERO chemists and biologists can do math.

     @epictittus @Elliptica @flux_the_cat that depends on the math

     of course, I guess you could define a physical chemist as a type of physicist

     biologists are sometimes decent at combinatorics and statistics tho

     @VaxxSabbath @epictittus @flux_the_cat It's actually fascinating that biology has long been the "goofy head" on the scientific hydra, because they really do have a much stronger grasp of statistics and probability. The whole world is trending towards data science and deep learning models, the rest of the guys are basically out in the cold on this one.

     I've been at a astrophysics conference for the last week. One of the speakers told a story about how he once published a paper showing that a lot of papers were basically doing math wrong (making up notation, using notation wrong, and then jumping to false conclusions based off that bad notation). He received so much hate that he decided he would never do that again.

     @flux_the_cat I found the abstract. 30% of papers (out of 75) did their math wrong.

     @Elliptica @flux_the_cat Does this problem exhibit itself more within a certain camp of Astrophysics? I want to know who's theories to ignore.
